Default 68 Trunk Mat. Fremont Build

I've almost completed the trunk part of my 68's restoration and have a final question regarding the size of the mat.

For as long as I can remember the original trunk mat was cut out around the spare tire. The original mat disappeared long ago and I replaced it with the rubber one from NPD that is basically square and reaches to the tire hold down.

My question is, did the original 68 mat have a cut out around the tire? Did the Fremont factory have their own design of mat?
Or did my dad cut the mat?

Scott, what do you see on your Fremont cars?

Photos of the original mat are from the early 80's

Like my '67, it looks like it may have come with a Chevelle mat. Fremont built Chevy, Pontiac, Olds & Buick A-body cars so they may have just grabbed what was available.

My Fremont built 68 Lemans has its original trunk mat and it is NOT cut around the spare. I won't be back until spring to take a picture of it for you, sorry

Well look what I found under a box in my garage. The original mat.
From what I can see its die cut, but not by dad. Now I'm trying to determine, taking into account its age, whether its black or aqua.
I may also have to go darker with the trunk splatter.

Ed, just got back from down south. Went and found my trunk mat. I was wrong, it's cut just like yours. Definitely black and aqua

Thanks Jeff for the confirmation. Looks like I'll be cutting the new one.

Attachment 565493Note the factory marks on your trunk weather stripping in the bottom trunk photo. Look in upper left-hand corner, to the right of the trunk hinge. You'll see two vertical marks there, one was red/pink and the other white, if I recall. I just took a look at my pictures to be sure from a 1969 Freemont LeMans. White/Red markings...
