68 choke
My qjet choke isn’t functioning right. The unit that drops down isn’t dropping.
Does the coil on the intake control that? I recall that coil coming undone when I took the part off to clean it up. I just rolled it back up but I’m wondering if it’s not working now. |

Yes the coil as you call it in the well of the intake manifold has a rod that connects to the linkage on the side of the Quad.
Most likely it is not connected It is pretty simply the way it works Make sure the vacuum pull off is working and will hold vacuum while you are checking it out. |

After reading that, I guess the choke spring is too tight since it idle is extremely high and won’t release by just pushing gas pedal.
My setup is the same as pic 15. When the spring unraveled I just rolled it back up but my guess is it’s not installed correctly. Am I able to just buy a new spring for the housing or maybe I should try winding it back up and reinstalling? Taking the air cleaner off to start the car is a pain lol |

there are 2bbl and 4bbl choke stoves, as I recall they look the same, but are would reverse of each other;
If you have the correct stove, there was a choke rod that had a large elbow in it to permit the rod to be bend so that the choke settings could be minutely adjusted.

I’m pretty sure I have the original setup on there. When I start it cold the idle is really high and doesn’t release until I push down on the block looking unit on the passenger side of carb. I can see how the rod releases that block but I’m just not sure the coil isn’t locked in place.
I might just remove it and see if the spring is somehow just not opening. |

Are you saying that the coil in the choke stove unrolled somehow? That’s a bimetallic strip, so its curvature changes as the temperature changes. I’m not sure it’ll work right if you unrolled it and rolled it back up. At a minimum its calibration will be different. You could take it off and heat it up and cool it down to see it work.

Yes. When it was removed from intake it unraveled. I rolled it back up and reinstalled.

I think you’re going to have a rough time getting it to work right. The loop on the end has to be at exactly the right height based on temperature. It might be smart to get a new choke stove. The alternative is going to be playing with it until it’s right, which I’d guess may or may not be possible with it having been straightened out and rolled back up.

I may have to just buy the repro from Ames and store my original. I’d rather it work right than say it’s original.

I just ordered the Ames repro. Does the rod connect to the spring directly?

it should not unravel.
that right there tells me that something is wrong with it.
