'66 Full-size exhaust
Can't stand single tailpipes but can't find a dual system that WON'T BLOCK THE DANGED STARTER and sounds "right" for my Bonneville. As in, mellow, not loud. 389 4V is factory, wondering if mebbe fact Y-pipe and a 1-in, 2-out 3-chamber Flowmaster would work. Any experimentation done along these lines? Thanks!

Did you contact Paul at Ram Air Restorations?
I put duals on my 66 Bonneville (1981) without any starter clearance problems. patrick

Thanks Patrick! I should rephrase...no starter clearance problems, you just can't get the starter OUT with the exhaust installed. Guy who had my car previously had hammered the DR side pipe nearly flat to get the starter out.<G> Hadn't heard of Ram Air Resto but I'll check 'em out...

I put RARE long branch on my '64 GP. I also put a McRobb small starter. All fits and works well. Easy to get starter in and out and starter doesn't get stopped by heat. I then used a Pypes 2 1/2" dual exhaust system.

'64 GP is cool...my dad had one when I was a kid. Sounds like a great solution to the starter/headpipe issue, too, even if it's an expensive one...I looked for a long-branch manifold but struck-out. I reckon I'm stuck with the Y-pipe but it's a solution I can live with if it means being able to afford to get my gauges restored.<G> Thanks, man!
