It seems to me that PYPES is sure missing a great opportunity here to work with Tom and to carry a very unique product

Tom,

Any thoughts on making a 3" version? I'm in the midst of restoring some Rally II's & redlines (faux redlines on MT ET Street Radials, a'la Mike Noun) for my car, to make it more of a "sleeper". As soon as I start the motor, though, the "sleeper" aspect is SHOT by the old 3" Flowmasters!

The Dr. Gas x-pipe (Thanks, btw!) mellowed out the sound noticably, but it is still too loud.

And as hoped, they sound and work absolutely awesome. They are quieter than the 17748 Walker Dynomax when closed and louder than most glass packs (and even some Flowmasters) when open.
The engine is a 10.9:1 compression 1969 340 Plymouth with a stock cam and all other stock stuff except a set of 1991 cylinder heads. It runs 104 mph in the quarter mile so it is a bit more powerful then when new.

Idle (550 rpm) 70 dBA closed, 82 dBA open
2000 rpm 82 dBA closed, 94 dBA open
3000 rpm 87 dBA closed, 97 dBA open.

I am very, very pleased that they work so well and have such a drastic difference in sound levels. They have a Cadillac sound when closed and yet a powerful sound when open.

Congratulations! At least you've got your own set, even if the rest of us are left to envy you! But I really hope you can follow this through to producing them.

Let's see, 2005 - 1970 = .... DANG!!! It must feel quite cool, to successfully make something that hasn't been done is THAT long! And for it to actually work, even!!

They look awesome, Tom! I hope I get to hear some in person, someday not too distant from now.

I bet you will come up with some sort of really interesting evolution of this design, before too long ;-)

Lee

Jack, actually, these are not mine. I built them for a friend that has a real VOE GTO. Now I have to figure out how to make a set for my own car.

Lee, I have been pondering how to change them and may have some ideas
Thanks again,
Tom

May be getting ahead of you, Tom, but will you be offering the rest of the components to add this option to you r car if it was not originally equipped with this option? Shouldn't be too difficult, I believe it is the same under dash bracket that is utilized for Ram Air, is it not? I don't know exactly what else is involved, but would definately increase demand for a neat rare option. Just a thought. Thanx and good luck. Chris... are you listening?

I was able to listen to the VOE mufflers in person today at Tom's house. The sound was great despite the fact they were being forced to pass spent Mopar gas fumes. Nothing subtle about the transition between the two sound levels, it's VERY noticeable. Hopefully the GTO they're going on will make it to GTOAA in St. Louis. It would be an aural treat listening to the tiger button prowling around the showfield!

Okay, I have the VOE's sound recorded on a two minute long track on a CD. Can you computer experts tell me how to get this posted so others can hear it?
Thank you.

Hey Tom, thought you might like to see this car that was supposed to be an original driver controlled exhaust car on eBay. Not sure where he gets his numbers on production or if it has any of the original linkage or controls but quite a rare car if it's what he says it is.

Thank you Rick, yes he has the number of them listed as 21 was this is how many convertibles were built (from my data). It sure looks to be a legit and very, very nice car. We have spoken.

Hey, Tom! No need to beat the bushes for customers- you've already got lots of us drooling over the prospect of buying a pair!

If they are a limited interest item and you want to have them produced in larger quantities, you may want to consider pitching the concept of your muffler to a large company like Edelbrock. They seem to be wanting to get there hands into everything these days, if not, try the rest of the companies. Maybe they will be willing to purchase the plans from you. Anthony

YVEYANT, thank you for the comments. I can pretty well assure you the big guys would not have the time or the economies of scale to make these babies. They take some time and for a big shop to do it, the welding alone woud make them cost so much money that only the people Robin Leach visits on TV could buy them!

By the way, they sound awesome.
Tom
