12 bolt open... killin me. Numbers are correct, but no vin on the block, hopefully PHS will tell me more. They did some basics, coolant, stat, brakes including master and flush, adjusted a carb that needs an overhaul (kits ordered). Don't know if that sticker on the valvecover is factory or not. I've been eyeballing that hood tach David, but don't think I could bring myself to cut the hood.

Default VIN on block...

Steve, I'm guessing that's probably a Fremont car (Z) on the VIN? If so, they used very small and sometimes light stampings on the block. I've seen some on the upper pad where the XF code is and some down below where most are stamped. Clean both areas real good and look close!

Valve cover sticker looks aftermarket, probably an oil or additive that was used at some point by the old man that owned it.

That is the funkiest looking vin stamp I've ever seen and yes it does match, thanks for the heads-up. I had forgotten what a mess that buffer makes.

Great, you found it! Yes, they are tough to see. Its always a messy job, I like to do that outside for that reason.

The best part about buffing is using the buffer on the winshield to clean off the residue from the hood. Makes the glass slick and shiney, bugs don't stick as tight to it.

Mike.

Put the finish wax on Saturday, some light scratches on the hood didn't come out, needs a wet sand. Went to pull it out for some pix and the fuel pump dumped all over the ground, pump will be here today, between that and the carb I'm thinking I should drop the tank to see how it looks and blow out the lines. Hope to have it out this weekend.

I forgot how nice that looks. Mine ended up not looking that great. Olds 88 pulled out in front of it. Sure miss that GP.

Thanks for the kind words... on a side note, the carb overhaul had issues as did the one on my '69 done the week before, both had sticking accelerator pumps, come to find out there may be an issue with these and eathanol (10-15% here) installed an up graded pump in the '69 tonight and will do so in this car... if I have a fun ride to work tomorrow

Sorry about your car Jack, that looks like an old drag stip pic... yes? Delta 88 is a boat, my Gramps had a '74 88 Royale.

You shoulda ran that Accell pump a few days. I've had new ones stick and come out of it once they get broken in.

Haven't had that happen in a long time Mike, of course you don't have the need to rebuild Q-jets that often anymore. Thought I was losing my touch, but knew something was up when both carbs did the same thing without leaving the barn. Drove the '69 to work and back today with only slight ping and overtemp issues (wasn't easy on her and she's a mongrel). That pump was worth every dime to know it wasn't me!

"Sorry about your car Jack, that looks like an old drag stip pic... yes? Delta 88 is a boat, my Gramps had a '74 88 Royale"

It actually was in front of my house in Anchorage, AK. The GTO in the pic had the 455HO engine from the T-37 with RA IV heads and a HO high lift cam from HO Racing. Really ran good.

My wife came to work in the GP one day. She looked agitated. She NEVER came to my work. But this day when I asked her what was wrong she blurted out "Did you know our car will do 85 in second gear?" I was shocked and asked her what she was doing going that fast. She stated she was trying to pass another car and he accelerated so she floored it. Then she said "The back tires squeaked when it shifted. Is that normal?"
I about died laughing. I never told her till later that it would do over 100 in second.

Still miss that car.

Looks real nice Steve. That's the way to get a car. Worth all the shipping trouble. I love the car with the rallys and no mouldings.
