Since this car has the trim that outlines the vynil top, but I really don't want to add a vynil top again, were painted-tops available on '69s?

That's a good question... Cant say that I've ever seen one before on a GP, but they were available on GTO's. That's a great idea... rather than eliminating the top & molding rivets all together, you'd still be able to go back to a vinyl top down the road.

Grant I'm thinking it was a 4 gear car but won't swear to it. Wish I'd have bought it, we were 500.00 apart on price and neither party was budging. Been a cool peice to have owned and in hindsight I should've spent the money.

Thumbs up

Wow, great car, Matt. I need to check into this section more often.
I love the way your GP looks just as a driver with normal wear & tear on it.

Of course. I've always had a deep love for 69-72 GPs so whenever someone brings in a fresh face I'm all smiles.
I'll be keeping up with your progress.

I say go for it! I can't see it hurting the value of your car any.
In my long reaching memory, I could almost be sure I have seen a 69-70 verdoro B-body with a painted black top.
Not sure if a white top would look better, but since yours has a black gut, that's (black) what I'd go with.

I should post more - first a big hello to Grant, Keith, and Pontiaccollector!
Our 69' J HO 3spd had that same shift ball. When we put a 69' Camaro 4spd (M-20?) in my dad used a white shift ball, to match the parchment interior - we knew at the time that a non-patterned (3spd) floor shift knob was rare.
The 3spd trans was sold with the car.
I've never seen a 69' GP with bucket and no console; there is a bracket that is welded to the floor pan for the console to mount to. I would have to see such a car along with docs perhaps to believe such.

Grant - thanks for solving the mystery on the drum-brake equipped GPs!
Matt - have fun with that 3spd! Parts are readily available for that trans, since it's a For - oops - Dearborn 3spd.
I like tha

I meant to say hello to muscle_collector. Duh.
Also, I love that 3spd radio delete car. That's the car I should have gotten for the Pure Stock drags, but you take what you can find.

Thanks, joegpho... my GP has a console, actually. I have since set it into place. It is not "next" in terms of the resto queue, but I will chip away at it with due diligence, I assure you.

Cool GP is roadworthy!

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd post a couple pics of the GP as of today.

Since last time, I got rid of the POS Holley, fixed several major vacuum leaks and added a set of wheels and tires that really sets the car off nicely.

Also, the electrical problem I was having has been partially solved - I replaced the flasher! No more front blinkers when I step on the brakes!

The new shoes look great Matt! The front and rear bumpers sure fit nice on your car, never been hit or messed with I'm guessing.

Blower type rear defog and drum brakes were available on GP. Had two cars with the blower rear defog, saw a couple drum brake cars never owned one. The dash switches are different for the two different systems as I recall, wire window has a green light integrated and blower is without. Rocker type switch is unique to GP.

never saw a stick console delete or manual steering car. Maybe Canadian ones exist? I would think they do.

Have a 3 sp knob somewhere when I find it I'll post it. Used it for years on my 70 lemans since it matched the dash wood.

American 200 S make the car!!

No vinyl top 69 cars used a stainless rear window moulding, not the textured piece. Same as all 70 GP, top or no top

I like that car just like it is. As for the vinyl top...I generally prefer cars without them...but the '69 generation of Grand Prixs just don't look quite right without one in my opinion. I'd say keep it!

The black vinyl top and Verdoro Green will be reapplied at some point. Man, I can't stand the way that the steering wheel gets sticky after 40 years...probably a wood wheel in its future, too.

Took it out on the freeway over lunch today...3.55s are definitely noticeable at 70 mph!

Hows that 20 year old rebuilt carb doing? Did you check the vacuum pull off?

primary circuit is perfect...I will check the CPO today; secondaries don't seem to want to open unless I slowly creep up on WOT.
