Just confirmed that fan belts are original...
Just pulled the car back in the garage a little bit ago... the engine stopped at just the right place to see all three fan belt numbers. The two letter code on each match the corresponding boxes on the build sheet. Look at boxes 36, 37 & 38 on the build sheet...

It's so cool that a lot of GP's out there still haven't been messed up. This is a great "pattern" for all our cars. Thanks a lot Grant for great pics and info.

original heater hoses...
I don't believe that I've ever seen this before on an a/c car... the hose from the nipple on the right rear head to the control valve is a molded hose with a 90 degree bend off the nipple like the non-a/c cars used. In the last photo you can see a faint green stripe on it...

found another build sheet...
Started in on the interior yesterday, I pulled the rear seat bottom out to vacuum under it. Was pretty clean under there... just a little debris and a 1983 dime. There was another build sheet folded in half lying loose inside the seat bottom. Looks like it was just tucked under a spring loop originally and probably fell out when someone sat back there. Nice to have another copy to put into a sleeve. Also, I spotted a carpet trim tag attached to the passenger front section of carpet while vacuuming under the front seat...

Back at it today...
Pulled the radiator and heater core to rebuild/replace. I needed to change the front crank seal as it was puking oil badly and has been for a long while, nice & easy access with the radiator out. I popped out the original crank seal and got my flexible scope to peek up into the timing case to check out the cam gear... as I had suspected its the original, aluminum & plastic with chunks missing! More work! Got the water pump and timing cover off and then took a few photos. A few plastic gear chunks in front of the main cap. The cooling system looks very clean.

VIN stamp on block. Timing chain case is very clean... no corrosion, even on the divider plate and the sleeve seals slid right out. Fuel hoses on pump may be original too?

update...
Got a lot done over the past couple of months...
Had the original speakers restored and the AM radio works great. Removed the clock and took it apart to clean the movement and it now works. New timing gear installed along with new water pump and t-stat. Had the original radiator re-cored, new upper & lower hoses and a new heater core. Got the heater & a/c system working and the TCS system working with an nos three prong temp switch. I ended up having the original rear plastic valance repaired and repainted, also had the front headlight surrounds and front valance stripped and repainted at the same time. Everything came out good and matched pretty well. Next will be to have the driver's seat repaired, waiting on material from SMS. Then a full interior cleaning and conditioning. After that I will start in on the engine compartment... a good cleaning, install new valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and probably a carb rebuild. Here's a few quick exterior photos taken yesterday... |

Looks great , The white top really looks sweet on that car . I know you will enjoy cruising it around . Time to get mine out of winter hibernation ..... .
