Tri-Power value
I have 1965 and 1966 Tri-Power set ups that are complete with linkage, fuel lines, thermostat housing and GTO air cleaners. They were both removed from my own cars in running condition and clean. The carbs will need new gaskets and pump. These sets have been wrapped in plastic and stored in the house for 20 years at least. I have been trying to get a realistic price to ask for them. I am not looking for the INFLATED prices you see on line but ones I can reasonable ask. With rebuilds for the carbs and new paint for the manifolds they would be excellent for cruise night cars. A vendor at Norwalk offered me $500 each for them but I'm not that stupid. Any help would be appreciated.

If they are complete and need rebuilt, I'd say around $1,200 for the '65 setup and $1,500 for the '66 setup.

I paid $2300 for a 100% complete, ready to run set up (1966) from a good fellow in Maryland that builds them. The carbs were all completely recolored, all brand new fuel lines, linkage, air cleaners etc. Basically a ready to run show quality piece. I just bolted it on and it ran perfectly.
I offer this for comparison's sake. If I saw a good used set up for $1500 I would pass on it for the one I mentioned above. Just my opinion. |

I just sold my jon Havens built 65 Tripower that was in excellent clean condition for $1500.00 locally. Had a few callers and sold it to the first guy that came by. It even had K&N filters with chrome tops..

I'll add to my above comments that I had no concern about any matching numbers so that aspect is of value to some.

The carbs unrestored usually sell for between $175 and $250 each. So, a set of OEM Tripower carbs will sell between $525 and $750.
A '65 intake can fetch $200-$300. A '66 intake $300-400.. So, your '65 setup should sell for $725-$1050. The '66 setup $825-$1150, These prices are tops, assuming all parts are there and in restorable condition. To restore them to factory condition requires dichromating the carb bodies. You would also need to restore the throttle bases, install a kit with new accelerator pump, needle/seat, gaskets, check balls. The linkage levers need to be plated silver and/or gold zinc. This will add $700-$1,000 to any Tripower setup, but the finished product looks like when it left the factory!! The first picture is of a set of '66 carbs restored. The second picture is of a '61-'64 carbs restored.

I paid $900 for a relatively complete '65 setup with some spare bowls and other parts, NIB rebuild kits, etc.. Been about 7 or 8 years ago.

One of my first Tripower purchases was a '66 setup complete with air cleaners for $40 in the late '70's. Setups then were all less than $100, but there were no repro parts available such as airhorns. But, then you could buy a nice GTO for $500-$800.
I began manufacturing mechanical linkage kits in 1981. Until the late '70's, you could still buy the linkage over the counter at Pontiac dealers. My, how times change!!

I have found that most of the Tri=Powers are installed on driver quality cars and not full restorations. My TP's would be excellent for that type of car. As stated they are complete so nothing else would need to be ordered to use them. They also have K&N filter elements. I have NOS AC elements. also. Would prices around $1000 be reasonable?

I just purchased a 65 set locally for $1500. The set came as you see it off a restored 65 GTO that went to fuel injection. The set had been off the car for some time. I felt the price reasonable as it was local so I could go and check it out. I will run it as is, save for painting it a more correct color and probably check the jetting and internals. The air cleaners are not factory but I am not a purest and I can source those easily if desired.

Keep in mind with ebay they charge 10% including your shipping plus paypal fees. If your buyer decides for any reason they don't like it ebay will make you refund it including shipping both ways. I think they even upped the guarantee for the buyer to 60 days now.. So with the 100+ cost to ship each way its not worth the risk and it will be about 150 in fees.
You could probably get 1100-1500 from a fellow member here or on CL. |

I have sold a couple of Tri-Power Set-ups with the carbs properly rebuilt, new fuel lines, and linkage, and carbs dichromated (but I got the dichromate work done by a friend from Holley). Both sets (66 units) went for over $1600 to friends.
The prices Dick B posted in Post #6 are inline for what the stuff it worth in nice shape. Tom V.

We just sold an almost complete 1966 tripower setup for $1500
Racer:
Kind of late to this rodeo, but the info may help someone. Our 1966 setup included: cleaned and painted intake correct carbs that needed recoloring repro fuel lines original linkage repro return spring kit original air cleaners that needed rechroming (3) new A220C air filters (3) new Borg Warner carb kits It was missing: thermostat housing divorced choke assembly and rod We sold it for $1500 and the guy was very happy to buy it for that.... Prices sometimes vary based on the area of the country you are located in. If both your setups are COMPLETE, I'd think your 1965 setup would be worth $1300 to $1500 in the real world and your 1966 setup would be worth a couple hundred bucks more. If I ran across them for sale locally and could get into them for $1k each, I'd buy them for myself. Good luck! |
