Front carb pouring gas
Hi
I just rebuilt my carbs . I ran just the center carb first and got it running and adjusted great. Then I put the front and rear carbs on and the car was running good, but the front carb was pouring out gas even at idle. What would cause that...what did I do wrong??? Thanks, Dave Last edited by dhcarguy; 09-11-2017 at 01:09 PM. |

You ran the front carb first?Or did you run the center carb first? If gas is over flowing it has to be the float or needle and seat.Tom

Problem is the needle/seat dirty or stuck. Any time you open the fuel lines, there is potential for dirt to enter. Even a small speck of dirt will interfere with a needle/seat closing.
This often happens on startup. Use a plastic screwdriver handle and briskly tap the top of the carb next to the fuel inlet line. Usually, this cures the problem. Another possibility is that you forgot to tighten the seat in the carb top when assembling.

Thanks Dick, I will try your suggestions. It would not surprise me if I did forget to tighten something. I have earned some senior moments.
The center fuel bowl I got from you is working great. Dave |

If you installed the inlet needle float clip on the end carbs, this clip may cause flooding due to binding of the needle.
I have found the outer carbs do not require the inlet needle float clip. |

Agree needle valve problem
How much fuel pressure are you running at? Did you install a regulator for fuel pressure?

I do not know the fuel pressure. I did replace the fuel pump years ago with a stock
new pump. That was about 13 years ago and I never had a problem with fuel pressure before. I got my kits from Mike's tripowers with the 2 pc. needle and seat. (NO Clip). I am not a mechcanic..but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Thanks, Dave |

Very easy to just have a bit of grit or dust either inside a line or even embedded on the viton needle. I wipe each needle and wash each seat before I install them and flush every fuel line with hot water and blow air dry then install the next day.

I´ve found nothing but trouble with non-factory style fuel inlet valves.
Intermittent flooding, restricted flow for WOT runs, stuck cloosed sitting a while to name a few..... Using the factory style and size inlet valves (no float clips used) since 1991 for the end carbs with no issues in my 1966 Tripower GTO is good enough for me. |

OK , Last night I took the air horn off. The float level and drop is spot on. However I did see tiny black specs in the float bowl. Cleaned it out, Put back together and seems to be good now, no more gas pouring out.
Must have been debris on the needle and seat. I will keep an eye on it. Thanks everyone, Dave |

Paul,
I got the N/S from Mike's Tri-power. It is NOT oem , It is 2 piece with no clip. . It has a red ,flat, ethanol safe seal on the seat. You can see a picture of it on his site. (NOT the "Grose" one) Dave |
