Default 8 lugs with Diamond Back HR-78-14 tires..

I saw a 66 GP backing into a spot at the local car cruise the other day. It looked perfect! There was something different about it compared to all the others. Looking closer I noticed the tires were nice the thick and on factory 14" 8 lug rims. The tires were HR-78-14 and new! I asked the owner were he got those tires and he said Diamonback. He also had all the printing removed from the sidewalls and they looked perfect!
I asked a loaded question, how do they ride, he said to my amazement, "like a new car". I read up on these tires and they are made from brand new molds using the latest tire tech.

So it looks like we finally have a 14" tire.. 15" 8 lugs never looked right to me but looked better then the 14" with the gum band tires... Those HR-14s looked perfect!!

They came up in another discussion recently, I posted a link to the Diamondback site: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...62#post6058362 They're available in whitewall, redline and blackwall.

I also have Diamondbacks on my 64 GTO they are 17 inch but they made them in a red side wall with no writing on them. Coker didn't sell anything like that, but they costs a lot more. Think think I paid about $235 $260 each

The Diamondback H78-14 tires in blackwall are $199/ea. Not cheap, but less expensive than similar tires from Coker - their American Classic radial that looks like a bias ply in 8:00-14 is $298/ea.

But this guy said they ride smooth with very little balance weights. You know your not getting that with Cokers. As a matter of fact I went to a new place for tire balancing, they have the roller balancer and shave tires. When I was giving the owner my info, he flat out said he will not touch Coker tires. And when you figure in the cost of 15" 8 lug wheels and the fact the 15" wheels just don't look right on 8 lugs.. I think its a big thing. I am looking at 14" mag wheels again now that I can get tires for them.. The 14" wheel looks so right on these cars, it was always the small tires that looked weird..
