What's the Date of this AM/FM?
I have this AM/FM radio in my parts stash and was wondering what the date of this particular radio is?
Thanks, Dennis |

It’s hard to tell on my phone, but the part number looks like 22AFM2 which would be 1972 (2), Pontiac (2), Lemans/GTO (A), AM/FM (FM), I think the last “2” indicates non stereo (no red dot) with fader, but that might not be correct.

Thanks 77 Canamman & GTO_6970! I think it is a mono radio...I didn't check to see if it had the red indicator in the FM dial.

Sticker shows FM= stereo. '71 & 72 stereo will have two power transistors on the big heat sink.
FM mono use the small heat sink with one power transistor.

If you look at this auction, photo #8 shows the back. There is a disc with inked DELCO GM DS-501 and a 4 digit number (7538 in this case) and reads year and week (as you can see, it did not originate in a '74).

The disc is an output transistor.
Regarding the date code on the DS-501 transistors: The first number(s) indicates the production year. The second pair is the week. Production before the 30th week would be used in the year stamped. Production after the 31st week is for the next production year . In the middle, it could go either way. 7538 would indicate 38th week 1975 for 1976 production. These are easy to swap, so it's not a definitive indication of the radios production date.
