Mine are on a Formula, not a GTO, but anyway.. Just took a look, and it looks like I241 or 1241.. or I am looking in the wrong place. Just under he valve cover rail just ahead of the right hand ex port, right? They were cast on night shift if that makes a difference to anyone..

I have a 9D 72 T/A. I will check the heads and get you the codes for your database. JOhn |

Lloyd,
Checked them out ...J011, both of them. Do not have the scallops. The PO had the motor apart..did the SD internals(still on my stand) and might have messed with the heads, but... I know about decking to true the heads but would he have been able to have the intake side milled ? The mating surfaces of the head/head and head/intake don't look like they have been cut. He scribed the one head in an attempt to start what I am guessing was a gasket match to the intake and then the work stopped. The other head looks like it hasn't been fiddled with but who knows. The motor work was supposed to have been done by a Pontiac shop in the Jacksonville, Fl area? Last edited by tajohn; 10-21-2010 at 06:19 PM. Reason: spelling |

Yours are the very first 1971 dated 7F6 heads I've heard of without the scallops. I'm betting that they've been surfaced on the intake side . . .

I don't think its possible to resurface the intake side of those scalloped heads enough to remove the scallops. You're talking about almost a 1/2 inch, total depth for the two cylinder heads. There wouldn't be any way to get the intake to fit at that point.
