Default 96 Gran Prix

Im looking at a purchase of a 96 Gran Prix with a bad motor.
Can a 3.8 liter be put into this or should I try to stay with a 3.1 like is in it?
How difficult is the swap?
Thanks

3800 was used in one of the "W" body "sister cars"- the Buick Regal. So if you find one of those (actually I have one of these- a '93 Regal Custom 4 dr.- very smooth and strong performing car)- you can swap out all of the drivetrain and wiring harness/ computer out of the donor car.

Im not sure if the 3.1 is fixable as I have not picked up the car yet.
What does a 3800 set like that go for?
Thanks
