Need your opinion regarding the quarter louvers
Need your opinion regarding the quarter louvers. I have had basically 95% if the metal replaced over the last three years. The car is looking good and almost done at the body shop. Since all the sheet metal is new, I really do not want to start drilling holes in the car. I have to drill holes in the new trunk for the aftermarket, carbon fiber rear spoiler, so there is 8 new holes already. I am not installing any of the badges so no extra holes there.
I have found original quarter louvers, but do I really want to drill 24 more holes in new quarters.... I do not plan on driving in bad weather, but I know it will happen. My thought was grinding off the rear posts, getting an industrial strength adhesive and install them that way. Is this a bad idea...

Its what makes it a firebird but if you are going for a shaved look go all the way. It might look wierd with nothing there though. I think tape would work. Works for new cars.
I put silicone caulk all over the studs and sealed the inside before putting the nut on. It takes a really soft touch to get them tight but not strip them. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

The body shop that did my car neglected to put the quarter louvers on before they mounted the fenders after paint. As a result I double-sided taped them in place. They've been like that without issue since 2013.
The holes however were in my fenders as they were produced. So I didn't have that issue there. If memory serves me there are 4 holes per louver.

2 holes per. He's probably going to cut the posts off though.

I did the drill and silicone install as well. Did three '68's that way. Was indeed nervous about drilling the two holes per louver, but used a small bit first, worked my way to larger for straightness and fit. By the third car it was a piece of cake.

Thanks guys.
I guess my real worry is water infiltration then rust starting. If I seal the outside and inside, maybe that will be enough. Like I said, I do not intend on driving if I know bad weather is possible. It will definitely be garaged in the winter after the first snow fall and road salting.

If that's your worry, you could cure that by adding a seam seal product around the posts prior to install. That would seal it up.

Not putting the quarter trim on just makes it look more like a Camaro.

So they don't put the holes in the 1/4s on the replacement 1/4s?

I have replacement 1/4's and the holes were pre-drilled.

Skins, or full quarters? I believe the full quarters do not come pre-drilled.
Or at least the five or six pairs I bought over the years didn't. Skins do com pre-drilled from what I recall. Last edited by 68tpls400; 09-18-2019 at 01:53 PM. Reason: sp |

My studs on my louvers were broken, so I used double-stick foam tape. Did that 25 years ago. Still there.

It is hard to see, but the full AMD quarters, fenders and 400 hood did not come with the holes pre-drilled . I don't mind the fenders and hood since I am not installing the badges, but the quarter louvers I need the holes drilled.
I like the seam sealer idea. Thanks

So the louvers are installed, decided to drill the holes.
Put a pic of the spoiler as well. 32 holes in new sheet metal.....

It is a Kindig It flat out spoiler. I wanted a spoiler, but not a Camaro spoiler, so this was a good choice. I had to sell my left testicle through..... It will be painted black when the car goes to the paint shop.
