Default New Project.......

Last Sunday (9th) afternoon I was working on the GTO as it sat in the basement. I needed to move it slightly so I opened the drivers door and pushed on the door jamb with my butt. Done it a thousand times. To stop it I put my left hand on the A pillar and pushed. Done it a thousand times. This time my elbow rebelled. Intense pain followed by no pain and a mild sick at the stomach feeling. I lifted the left arm and where the bicep used to join the inner elbow there was now a skin filled cavity. The bicep was now a knot up closer to the shoulder. Hmmmmm. Probably not good. I kinda had an idea what had happened and decided that a trip to the E/R was a waste of time and only good for catching the flu so unless things got complicated, I'd wait until Monday and call Lemack's orthopedic sports medicine clinic, which is a block from the office. They opened at 8:30am and invited me over right then. By 9, I had had an xray. At 9:15 Dr Martin came in and had me lift my arm, elbow at 90 degrees. She looked at me and said "you're fixing to have surgery". She explained the medical end of it....basically I had pulled the ligament that connects the bicep to the bone at my elbow off of the bone. She had JUST had a surgical cancellation for the next day or I could wait until the next Tuesday (18th). I told her I'd lie back right there and she could do it right then. I left her office and drove to the hospital for an MRI and pre-op testing and by 2 pm I'm done. Surgery at 8am the next day. During surgery they had to go up and retrieve the bicep and then 2 holes are drilled in one of the bones in my forearm and the biceps ligament is attached with a plate and a pair of screws. 2 weeks locked up in this brace, no movement allowed and then minor increases on movement and therapy.....lots of therapy. For months.

Merry Christmas!

Man, that sounds painful...and the therapy will be tough.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

On the bright side, you'll have lots of time to shop for parts & cars on line...

I had just gotten the final part (cam) for an engine build in. I have the shortblock on a stand and ALL the parts needed to put a nice 455 together, ready to go.

Guess they'll be there in a couple of months..........

Did you get the bionic upgrade while they were in there? Da na na na na na...

Sorry to hear that, and with such a simple maneuver too... done the same move many times myself. Take that therapy seriously! Hope you get back to wrenching soon.

Well, at least that bicep was small to begin with.

Hope you heal up quick David.

Since turning 50 4 years ago.......

Cancer....chemo and radiation.
Skin cancer on the nose...removed
Lower back issues....a shot and better until recently when I was treated for a "jammed" back. That was fun.
Mid back issues....shot and just deal with it. Thoracic spine disc disease.
Numerous kidney stones. Passed a couple of small ones. Doc went after one and also shattered a 6mm and a 10mm. All at various separate times over the last 3-4 years.

I'm accused around here of working my way through the medical dictionary.........

After taking a quick glance I thought you had become the 6 Million Dollar Man's new little buddy.

I hope all goes well David, and you have a somewhat painless recovery. That had to hurt like hell. If you're right-handed, it's a good thing it wasn't the arm you need to most.

looks just like the ones that Tray has on his leg. He had sugery on both legs last yr and edured one of those things on both legs. About 4 months ago he fell at therapy and got a new on for his left leg to wear as a fashion accessory fopr a few months after reattaching the tendon to his kneecap.

i'm begining to think he likes the combination of painkillers and attention.

Good luck with your healing process, listen to your therapist and don't push it too hard for a while.

Mike

Getting used to a new normal again is tough for sure. But you are tougher David!

Keep your spirits up and the arm down.
