I have a Long H-pattern on my G101A transmission and it’s light years better than a Hurst (the old ones are better than the newer ones IMO). I’m not sure a Long will fit without tunnel modifications tho (I had to make a custom hump and modify my floor for the transmission and shifter).

GILLIGAN, what rear end ratio are you running with the m23z?

67 GTO with original floors initially so with a 68 it might differ some. Hurst shifters pivot, but a Long shifter pushes/pulls to change gears; look at some pictures and it’ll make sense.

Is the M23Z considered “pro shifted”. Meaning face plate engagement or non synchronized dog ring? I can’t believe how impossible it is to miss a shift with my long shifter. But yes floor mods are mandatory with it.

the only experience I ever had with a Long shifter was in a Robert Yates Busch Grandnational car. Excellent shifter, more precious than a Hurst.

Mine was straight shot and had straight heim joint linkage. Unfortunately the floor mods were mandatory. not sure if you can even find a really good shifter that will performance nice as a long shifter without some floor modifications. the actual landing of the shifter didn’t fit well in my console either was 1968 GTO. I haven’t done any shifter research lately but maybe they make one that isn’t so intrusive.. I can’t see how it would shift as well. Now it’s hard to find yourself justifying cutting up the floor but when I was 20 years old cutting up the floor was just part of normal modifications for us then.
