Stan in close to 60 years I have only built one non factory head engine.All have been factory blocks.Tom

Before changing to e heads, victor and 1050 10years ago. Went 10.30's at 129 with home ported 62's. performer rpm and 850 holley. With a solid flat tappet cam 260/270. 3400lbs. same convertor that I'm still running. I do remember cranking compression was in the 220lb range vrs the 180lbs I have now the the roller cam.

I remember that I had to change the heads because the 62's cracked into the water jacket. Someone (me) got carried away porting them.

400 block honed to 4.125" = 401 c.i. (had 4 1/8 J E blower pistons on hand), 10:1
'61 SD crank w/center counterweights added
Old M/T aluminum rods
-16 heads, minor porting
Small-bore 6-71, 8% over crank speed
Old 4-port Hilborn injector and -1 pump, methanol
Vertex mag locked at 31 degrees
Very old flat tappet Crane cam
Headers-by-Ed
CrowerGlide 3-disc 8" full-centrifugal clutch
Inline 'JCG' quick-change
9" Strange 3rd member & axles, billet 4340 4-pinion carrier, 5.00 9310 gears

300' in 10 seconds, pulling 14,000 lb. sled (typically 8,200 RPM)
