Default No liner 70 GTO convertible

Picture isn’t very good but....car has no well liner? The top isn’t in the greatest shape and will be replaced soon, so I don’t want to pay a shop to take things apart and do it the right way. Temporarily could I put some tacking strip in the channel and staple well liner to that?

I would simply put ta thick piece of foam or heavy blanket folded up under it - that would keep it from dropping gin too far till you can repair it properly.
