Wondering if it's advisable to tow my GTO on an open trailer with the cover on. It has a soft inner surface. I'd go to extensive lengths to secure it as tightly to the car as possible, probably add a ton of grommets for bungees.

Just wondering if would survive for an 1100 mile trip, towed behind a pickup with a cap, without wearing through the paint (BC/CC). Paint is not outstanding so if it dulls some areas I'm not worried about it, I'll buff it out.

I have driven straight through several times, but this trip would be slower so might require an overnight stop ... just don't want the car visible while I'm asleep.

I guess I could cover it up when I stop for the night, and take it off for travel if necessary.

Don’t tow it with the cover on.

It will abrade the paint especially on any corners.

What about if I cover all the sharp corners with a couple of layers of tape?

I really want to draw as little attention as possible both in transit and while stopped.

Think about just how many flaps per minute a
cover will do at highway speeds. Just how slow
are you prepared to travel?

I'm hesitant to write this, but... if there are stake
pockets you could semi-enclose the trailer? You
would need four sheets of plywood just to create
4' sides. But most of the car would now be out of
plain view. No shortcuts here pls.

You might look into the plastic crash wrap but otherwise,
I think you'll be sorry if you attempt to use a cover on an open towed car.

I wouldn't tow with cover as others have said the constant wind flapping corners. You may put some kind of faring (I have know experience with faring just thinking)on front of trailer. I'd make sure waxed good before trip. After trip clean your car.

The cover is just going to cause issues and you’ll be worried about what is happening under the cover the whole trip.. It will obviously make people even more curious to what’s underneath and really do nothing to deter thieves if that is your worry. Clean it, wax it and tow it. Good chain Wrapped under it with a lock as well as a tracking device such as Apple Air Tag to help secure it (actually, 2 are better. 1 easy to find, one well hidden under car).

There are two very good reasons to not have a cover on the car while it is being towed. As others have said, it will damage your paint if not remove it completely on some of the corners. The second is no matter how well the cover is secured there is a chance of it coming off of your car and ending up on another car's windshield. Clean it wax it and show it off while you are traveling. Here is a picture of my Tempest on the trailer for a trip to Chicago. One thing I did add to my trailer was a critter/stone guard at the front.

If you are worried about people seeing it.. rent an enclosed trailer. If you are worried about someone stealing it at a motel... Back the trailer into a pole or a wall.

Be very careful about transporting on an open trailer with a car cover.
Flapping covers in the wind can ruin a beautiful paint job.

If theft is the fear, I think the cats on the tow vehicle or the Civic parked next to you are far more vulnerable than an old GTO.

Well, thanks folks, I guess it will be no cover.
The plan IS to drive straight through ... but if we have to stop I'll put the cover on while it's parked.

I'm flexible enough with dates that I can wait for a couple of day window of good weather.

Any loose fitting cover will cause damage at speed

If you're worried about rock chips, use either adhesive crash wrap or wrap tightly with luggage wrap

I do this for my bikes and motorcycles on long road trips

You mention putting the car cover on if you stop.

I would not do that. Don't put a car cover on over a dirty painted surface. Scratch the heck out of it.
