Default Work Bench

My step daughter made this vinyl decal for the top of my work bench. It’s butchers block and the decal is vinyl. Do I used polyurethane or what to seal and protect it? Sorry if this is the wrong forum but this one gets the most exposure and I couldn’t really think of a more appropriate one.

i would poly or epoxy over it, it will get scratched but the sticker it self can be preserved. also could put a piece of plexiglass over it. and just replace the plexi when scratched.

You could put poly or epoxy over it. Epoxy is way tougher but poly is easy to apply. As said either one will get scratched up over time depending on your use. Just put the sticker in a less used location. Looks cool!

a couple of coats of polyurethane or epoxy should protect that for years! I agree epoxy is stronger .

Looks nice. but I don't care what you cover it with other than a sheet of plywood wouldn't last a couple months on my bench.

Have you already applied the decal to your work bench? If not, consider making a plaque with it to hang on the wall above the bench.

I think plexiglass is the only thing that will protect it if you want to be able to see it and you actually use it for a workbench. It's very nice by the way!

Lexan or Rhino type plexi, it’ll protect the whole top.

Put it by the edge of top, or to the back, where it doesn't get heavy action. And yes, coat it.

If you’re set on having it on your workbench, you might consider burying it in that thick “bar top” epoxy

Yep, that is the way to go. If the epoxy gets scratched you can buff it.

Better than worrying about how to protect it, put it on a cupboard door over the work bench. It'll be far safer up there in the long run. And to protect it more on the door just use use a clear polyurethane over it.

Plexi, After years, you can replace it. Epoxy looks bad. Unless you put a Elvis head in there.

Well she already put it on my bench so moving it is out. It was a surprise. I am gonna polyurethane the hell out of it and just be careful. It’s just the bench in my garage not the one in my shop where heavy lifting is done. I will just have to try to be careful.
