So finally got my car back!! On the way there (2hour drive) my truck blew the water pump. Luckily i was 8 minutes from town and a friend brought me a pump and i changed it right on the side of the highway, back on the road! The car looks awesome in the sun, wow. I decided, no stripes. Instead i am going to have all the chrome trim painted flat black. Accent things in black, should look good.

Took it out cruising tonight, catches a ton of attention. Good to hear and feel it again.

I would upload pics but am having troubles here and on putfile.

Got my new moser axles in today, bring on the nitrous!!

They are the c-clip axles P# A102802

The said they are about 40% stronger than stock and can be shortened and resplined.

I have a busy week ahead of me getting ready for the races next weekend. Putting in an aluminum rad, nitrous, putting on a TII, changing header gaskets, might try and see if the victor will be an easy swap at the track but i would have to run without a hood.

Also building a 24x30 shop in the back, 2 walls done, 2 to go.

So busy, and hott!! was 32C today!

Builtit,

Yours is back from the body shop and mine just went in. They will start on it this Monday and i'm excited to get it back. The only thing i'm afraid of is the 8.5 rear not holding up so i'll probably be in a market for a 12 bolt for it later. Stepped up the ring gear and i wanted to get yours and others opinion on a tranny.
It has a muncie m21 in her now but thinking of going to a 5 or 6 speed down the road. Any suggestions. I'm getting a few opinions locally everyone so far are talking about the TKO 600. Send some pics

the 8.5 supposed are strong with the appropriate components.

Bitit- what rear do run now? Will it pass tech with the c-clips?

Any pics of the car assembled?

Shop sounds real nice.

I run the 8.5. Have not had any problems yet but was worried about the addition of nitrous.

Not sure when you have to run clipless, 11.5? Thats my limit with no roll bar right now.

Don't sacrifice yourself, someone with you or along side of you on the track, and your car by spending all this time and money on your motors and bodywork etc etc. only to run axles with C-clips. BUY THE C CLIP ELIMINATORS!!! Last thing you want to happen is to be going down the track or just taking off from the starting line and snap an axle. It Happens!!! There not that expensive. Ever seen the damage that can result from not having C clip eliminators????? "doh" "cry"
Watched a guy this past Saturday night break one at the starting line and the car turned right into the guardrail. A decent looking Chevy Luv truck now has a wiped out bedside and a smashed front clip.

Ya, i understand but i am narrowing this winter and going to the bearing retainer deal over c clip eliminators (dont want any leaks). I just upgraded for piece of mind until winter.

Well not bad for a non prepped track. Tires were at 20psi and i didnt think i was spinning but a friend said i was a fair bit so hopefully a prepped track tomorrow will help.

Runs:
1)12.176/111.58/1.826 squirters:35/31 (bounced off the limiter)
2)12.078/111.96/1.773 31/31 (alittle boggy i thought but looks like im wrong)
3)12.105/111.875/1.785 31/31 (adjusted the accel pump)
4)12.2/111.482/1.832 (redlight) 32/31

tried shifting alittle higher but forgot to raise my rev limiter (6g) so i bounced it of the limiter on the first run. I did not hae a stubby screwdriver to change the limiter anways.

I am running the TII with 1/2'' nitous plate and 50cc pumps front and back.

Man, it's still not 60'ing like it should. Might try 17 lbs in the tires and "Flash" the converter from 2000 footbrake. The flash will hit the converter harder which might get the 60' back down. Good luck and find a stubby!!! JD

Good info, I was just pointing out the average enthusiast doesn't realize the car will launch harder when the converter is flashed compared to leaving at say 3000 rpm off the footbrake. As long as the tires will hold the power it is a "bandaid" for having a converter that's slightly undersized for the combo; which I suspect is the problem with the new cam. Good luck! JD

I lost the 60's with the new cam, yes. I have it lashed on the tight side and was going to loosen it up at the track but did not want to commit the time so said hell with it.

I normally footbrake to 16-1800 and run it, i tried leavin from 1000 and no difference, never tried footing much higher than 2000, not sure if the fronts would hold the car as i know i can skid the fronts if i try hard enough.

I too suspect the convertor is too low for the new cam, this is why i want to have it restalled to ~38-4000 this winter and still keep the tightness.

My saturday runs in no particular order, was running two classes and things got hectic!

1)12.103/111.969/1.792
2)12.240/110.423/1.785
3)12.180/111.751/1.839
4)12.163/111.690/1.825
5)12.128/111.884/1.821
6)12.238/111.177/1.825

and the best for last, first round eliminations:

I ran 1st round in sportsman with a 12.05 dial in and ran 12.1XX so i got back just in time to stage for first round street legal and changed my dial in to a 12.10

Ran a 12.062/111.913/1.795 on a double break out.

Both our times for that are below, was close!

HIM
Dial in 11.78
Reaction .146
60ft 1.696
ET 11.763
MPH 115.643

over/under -.017

ME

Dial in 12.10
Reaction .174
60ft 1.795
ET 12.062
MPH 111.913

over/under -.038

The local photogragher took a couple pics of me so i will have those in about a week.

I also have a video or two that i can post pretty soon.

It was a great day at the track (13 hours), just wish i could get my 60's back! They had alky funnys, top fuel dragsters and even two nitro funnys there.

One video of me racing a friend with his AWD 2 liter turbo colt. He has run a best of 12.6 with it so far.

My launch looks pretty boring.

Right on, I was going to say you need a converter that will flash between 3800-4200. Good choice to have yours restalled.

On the lash, there have been a few threads about properly lashing your cam especially when running higher ratio rockers. There is a formula for calculating the lash when running rocker ratio's different than the ratio used when designing the cam. As an example, to restore my old Crower solid when running my 1.65's the lash increased by .002 Int/Exh. Mine was suppose to be lashed .022/.024 on the card but with the higher ratio rockers it moved out to .024/.026. IIRC It has something to do with restoring the proper engagement and valvetiming with the "Lash Ramps" on the lobe. You might see if this tuning tip helps out! Good luck... JD
