'68 RA1 GTO 4 sp Conv.
Single family owned and claimed to have 55k miles. Nicely optioned with PHS, the original dealer order form, and PP. I messaged the seller, who answered my questions...

Nice...ambitious pricing. I didn't think '68s had headrests?

Great car! Interesting the original buyer traded a '65 GTO convertible for it.
I wonder if this car came with the 4.33 rear and if it still has it...?

Agreed and a nicely optioned car. The headrests are on the PHS and the hood tach was dealer installed as it's on the dealer write-up. Somebody looked at it last night but as far as I know, she still has it.
I bought another car last month or it would've been mine....oh well. This should work. https://classiccars.com/listings/vie...-florida-33982 Last edited by mmarx; 09-19-2024 at 10:08 PM. |

Manual brakes and steering despite the other great options ordered.

Thought I would update this thread. I bought the car.
It will make a nice "twin" to my RA II car in the same colors (vinyl top). Some of the pictures in the ad are from 2010 when the car was fresh. It needs a complete refresh now. However it does have it's born with drivetrain including the correct carb/distributor/ZL axle, etc. VIN matches on engine and trans. I met the original owner and have all the original dealer paperwork as well as the PHS information. The car was taken off the road in 1978, then sold to the original owners niece around 2006. She and her husband did a "restoration" on the car (very nice couple). Car had about 51k on it (verified as actual mileage on title) and now has about 54k on it. Engine was rebuilt and new clutch installed. I will address all the non operating items, refresh the engine compartment and chassis, then have the car painted again. It has had one repaint since the factory original. There were only (92) 1968 GTO RA convertible 4 speeds built. This includes the RA and RAII engines. Interesting note about the dealer installed hood tach. It was a 1967 style. The car was built first week of November so dealer probably just pulled a tach out of his inventory. All the options are still present on the car. I am excited to get started on this car but it will be a project for sure. Here are a few pics when the car was brought to Florida and a picture of my documented RAII car. |

Thanks!
Another interesting thing the original owner told me was that he bought the car site unseen. In other words he never even saw a picture of the new body style. He said he worked with his saleman at the dealership and traded in his 1965 Iris Mist GTO on it. He said the front bumper did not quite match the color on the rest of the car when he got it. He was told that the factory was having trouble matching the color on the new bumpers. A reminder that these cars were once just "transportation" is he used to pull his boat with the car. The original bumper had holes in it where a trailer hitch was mounted. Mark |
