Default looking for largest tire for 65 Catalina 2+2 with Hurst 14x6 wheels

hello, looking to see what the largest tire size would be to fit under a 65 Catalina 2+2., without skirts. I assume the outer portion of the rear tire, where it will hit the inner fender, will be the limiting factor since the backspacing on those wheels is under 4". Maybe they don't even make a 14" tire large enough to worry about rubbing? I know you cant go too wide due to the 6" width of the rim. Thanks for any input,

your limiting factor is likely going to be the 6" width on the rims. Most would say that a 205 or 215 is max you should go on a 6" rim.

Take a look at the sticky note at the top of this section - it's about the biggest tire to fit on a 1966 car, but 1965 will be very similar. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=397313 If you'e sticking with 14" tires, the selection these days is so limited that you may not be able to find a tire big enough, let alone too big.

I have 245/60R14 on my car. It was the biggest that I could get.

On my Hurst wheels. I'm running Coker Firestone Wide Oval Radial Redline FR70-14. I tried to find a taller tire. 26.4 tall.

I have a newly restored set of Hurst wheels and am trying to figure out what tire to put on them. I understand that occasionally, using radial tires the trim ring would not go all the way down due to the way radials bulge. do you know of anyone having that problem and what kind of clearance do you have in the rear? I had thought that the 245/60 would present an issue. What kind tire would you recommend ?
Thanks.

Probably the largest as in tallest size you’re likely to find in an affordable radial tire would be a 215/75-14, nominal height being 26.7”.

I picked up a set of lightly used Coker Classic wide whites for $400 in that size to mount on my Hurst wheels, they’re not going on a big Pontiac but they’re pretty much the biggest and tallest radial tire that fits nicely on a 14x6” wheel.

I ran a G70X14 on mine for 30 plus years in bias ply (Firestone Super Sports) then in 1983 I went to Good Year Eagle ST (Flying Foot) radials in 245's and had zero issue with my original trim rings. I liked how these sizes fit the wheel wells on my 67 GTO. Never any issue with rubbing, turning, bottoming out, no problems at all.
