Default Anyone remember seeing these heads

at Norwalk some years ago?

Tom S and I were walking the Parts area and we stopped to talk with one of Tom S buddies who was selling parts.

Notice anything different about these heads?

Do not remember if they were "Water" Heads or not, Tom.

Herb Patton [hpatton] has a pair of them for sale, along with a Harvey Aluminum block.

Tom V- did you know Mickey's reason for creating them? It was mainly to give dragster drivers a clear forward view. Of course the double blower capability was good too.

Some might question the Intake and Exhaust on the same side of the head BUT other engines like the Pontiac and Ford 300 cid 6 cylinder engine have had the intake and the exhaust ports on the same side for years with millions of miles on the engines.

Mickey Thompson never did anything without a lot of planning/knowledge (based on conversations with the Baja Race guys who interfaced with him in that venue).

But would like to know if the heads are "water" heads.
It seems like it would be possible when Mickey had them cast up.

I was aware of the visibility benefit Jack.

I sketched up a CAD model last year with this configuration.. One of the main advantages I saw was all the push rods being on the other side and not interfering with the ports like the usual type of a deal.

I guess my main concern with running those heads would be the heat soak from the exhaust heating up the intake charge. That's why most manufacturers of inline engines eventually went with a crossflow design. I would love to see what the ports look like, though.

Normal 6 cylinder head (Truck application) did not like large amounts of boost, even with an inter-cooler, when run for any period of time.

Some pictures of a 6 cylinder aluminum crossflow head designed for boost.

The Mickey Thompson Heads might have worked fine for a Dragster application with Roots Supercharger Boost but actual testing experience has shown that the head design used by Thompson would not be so good on a production engine with higher than 12 psi of boost pressures.

Too much heat, wouldn’t work in any drag racing app!
