Old Venolia blower pistons .047 in the hole
Years ago I started to build a new 428 to replace the 455 in my 78 T/A. I started to build the motor and discovered the pistons were well down in the hole, a whopping .047.
I bought the used Venolia blower pistons (.990 pins) from the late Greg Merrick. He had passed before I used them so I couldn't ask him about it. With that said, I shelved the project for a few years. I did find a set of BBC 6.660 rods and I do have a factory 428 crank with 2.20 rod journals. The pistons will still be .012 in the hole but it's usable. Idea #1 build it with the 6.660 rod and spray it. Idea #2 build it with the 6.625 (Eagle ESP .990 pin) rods and put a 6/71 blower on it. Either way, I would be using my KRE aluminum heads on it with pump E85. Attached is a old picture showing how far the pistons were in the hole. I believe this was the old style way of running blower pistons? Thoughts?

Butler stocks .055 Cometic head gaskets. I have a set from them for a boost project.
