Unhappy Huge Disappointment

Well, I have been sitting on these non DOT T3's for over 15 years. This morning I disassembled the bumper they were installed in & ohm tested the filaments.
All seemed good. supplied 12V's to them & while they did work it would appear the gas has leaked out. The filaments stated to smoke & put a light cloud of white inside the "sealed" beams.

I'm sad.......

I have had that happen to a couple of them in my collection. That is why when and if at all possible, all headlamps are tested prior to purchasing.

Ya, I won't buy them at a swap anymore with out the guy testing them.
But, I have all guides in my T/A now. All I need now is a nice or nOS trunk mat.

I'll bet that won't be easy to find. My 80 T/A was female owned before me with 51K miles, it still doesn't look all that great. Decent, but not quite show worthy. Unless the trunk was never used it seems like they always have some small staining issue.

But, I have never tried washing any of mine either, so maybe they clean up?

Haha! You could buy a conversion kit. But that's probably another grand or so.....

Found something interesting in a 1979 sales manual tonight. There is an addendum dated January 15th 1979, that says Halogen lamps are now available TT5.

Its listed in the 1980 sales manual as a new item, RPO code TT5,for 1980, But it appears it could be ordered in 1979.

Interesting....

68ragtop, there is an ink stamp on the back of the bulb for date coding. Usually hard to read or wiped clean.
Sorry, somehow missed that when I went through the posts. I made it in bold so I don;t miss it again. I recently acquired the 1977-1980 Sales manuals & Have been paging through them. Nothing really new to add to what is known, but kinda cool to see it as the salesman did back at the time.

Must not have been too popular of an option though, or maybe unknown until it became standard? My 79 does not have them but its an early 4 speed car.

I was looking at Canamman's photos of NOS rectangular power beam bulbs and halogen bulbs. Is there a way to tell the halogens from the regular bulbs by just looking at them? I couldn't see a difference in the photos.

Don't the halogens have a raised H (by GUIDE) in the top of the bulb face?

I looked at Canamman's ebay listing for his halogens and he says they have Guide 1AH on them, so that must be the clue.
