Log into Carfax and post what you are interested in buying make, model, year range, mileage, price range, and select a mileage circumference for the site to bring up vehicles. I've bought two Duramax Silverados that way and got good deals on low mileage certified used trucks a '13 and then a '16. I don't know about something as old as you mention though?

Only thing I will give Toyota credit for is standing behind their product. They replaced a lot of those rotted Tacoma frames. GM would have told you to F.O.
From a superiority aspect, they are not. While the 5.7 is a powerhouse, it is unreasonably thirsty. No excuse for that in 2019. I have had several GM trucks, and all of the A/C systems performed flawlessly.
