Default Dougs headers and Z-bar question

Im looking to purchase a set of dougs round port headers for my 67 GTO. In their description it says to use a 64-65 Z-bar. Whats the difference between a 65 and 67 Z-bar and why wouldnt my 67 bar work?

I've had both round port and D-port Dougs headers on my blue 67 GTO. Only problem was that the grease zerk fitting lined up perfectly with the #7 exhaust tube. Was in a hurry in the first install so just removed the zerk and ran it for a few years. Next time the engine was out changing to a different set of heads and headers I welded up the original hole and moved the zerk to the back side of the Z-bar tube.

So the grease Zirk is the only clearance issue with the headers? That’s dumb cause I picked up a 65 Z-bar and the zirk is in the same place.

That's all I had to change, and the Z-bar and headers are still in the car today.

The fitting would have cleared the header had it been moved over along the length also, it was just easier to swap it to the other side of the bar.

I believe the difference is the location of the lower arm of the z-bar. I ran into this problem on my 66 when I installed round port headers. The headers that I used are Doug’s knockoffs by OBX. The new reproduction z-bar would contact the headers. Lower arm was too far outboard. I dug through my stash of parts and found another z-bar that would clear. Not sure if it’s a 64-65 type. Also had to weld up the original zerk hole.

Looks like a 64-65 Z-Bar at a quick glance.

I modded one so it would fit around one of the tubes on my JR Headers many years ago.

Thanks guys, I’ll hold onto both z-bars until I get everything installed and see what works

I finally found the old pics I took of the Z-bar after moving the zerk fitting. First photo shows where the zerk hit the tube and second shows its new position. Not the best photos, but they give you the idea.
