Schiefer clutches on passenger side. Don't know about driver side, but probably on passenger side rear window.

That car was sold about an hour northeast of me, interestingly the same dealer sold a 69 RA convertible, red on red iirc. It was for sale earlier this summer on CL or something but nothing was left of it. Someone probably bought it for the tags.

Driver side would have had the Schiefer Trans-Torq decal. Similar to this...

Yup I think you are right. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to find one. They seem to be pretty rare. Thanks for IDing it!

How am I just seeing this thread for the first time now . This is my kinda car! Love doyley paint , lace, cob webbing. Freak drops , ribbon etc This was an era and so much of that era has been erased by factory stock restorations. Which is sad because very very few of these cars were actually kept that way, in fact the whole point of these cars and what made them
So special and revered is the freedom of expression they allowed the owners . This trend to factory stock has re written history in my opinion . I hope this car is going back lettered w the panel painting it once had on it. Love it!

My thoughts exactly! This car has always been ‘The Hangin Judge’ to me so changing that would be taking away it’s character and originality.

I couldn’t agree more, it’s the cars identity . Without it it’s just another car.

No highways yet back then It was all back roads . My RAIV bird was unloaded driven 2 hours to LVD in NY drag raced all day then Driven back to CT engine yanked and ( short block ) swapped in from
The RAII car went back to the track next morning for comparison testing . RAII engine had been blueprinted by merkel on Long Island at a pretty hefty cost . . ( there’s some discrepancy if the whole engine was initially changed or just short block still) but later it was just the short block I believe.
They didn’t want to pay for it to be re balanced and blue printed since it had little use 1/2 season and had the same 9792506 number on it. NHRA accepted it though the rule book says it’s not allowed they also had a special firebird 400 fan spacer that was longer ( I still have it) to place the fan in the same spot (so tech wouldn’t complain) but the engine back. It was exactly the same but 1 inch longer .so look
For stuff like that on your car. If the car was sent to a dealer not a privateer to be raced they were not exactly the same as regular cars .

Hey - I have a framingham 01D pattern judge also (but it has just the deluxe wheel not the wood).

Curious would a 02a judge also be a pattern judge?

Yeah I know it’s a pattern judge I was wondering if my buddies car that is basically built the same but is a 02a is also a pattern judge . It’s very similar to this car with the exception of the date being later and the car has a vinyl roof.

Speaking of the hanging judge, it’s amazing to think that these cars were so BADass in their time that people would put LACE and doyley paint on them
In the form of flowers and they were only even more badass! Add a really tough name like the hanging judge that car must have really been something at the track or on the street back in the day. . Imagine the attention that car grabbed at the time.

As someone who had a bright colored race car covered In lace even in the 80s and 90s I can tell you it got a ton of attention (and it was kinda out of style then) and people really loved it. In its heyday when this look was HOT and Mainly only drag cars had it , this white in carousel paint must have been an attention magnet.

I’m curious do you still have the pattern for that lace / doyley? I’ve sprayed a bunch of lace type paint over the years. There’s some good websites for patterns. Looks like they maybe **** it white first then shot CR over that to get the flowers a positive Vs a negative .

That could be done in vinyl wrap if you had a good straight on picture of it. Could be digitized and laid on vinyl by the right company. Then just laid on over the CR paint . The panelizing line could still be
Done in one shot w a brush easy after. .

Best way to know is get the PHS on it (or the buildsheet I think). It would also have to be a Zone car and not a customer ordered car.

It would almost have to be a Pattern car , but we haven't encountered one with a factory vinyl top before.
It would need to otherwise duplicate the options on the Invoice of this car exactly.

A/C was an allowable uptick on a Pattern , so a vinyl top may have been also.
Also check if his trim tag calls for the top ,,, like 72 A or 72 B paint code.

Overall ,,,, non-Pattern Judges didn't start coming out until around 02C week.
Only a couple of exceptions found so far and they were both ultra-early 01B cars

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
The flower lace stuff on the top panels were decals according to the owner.

Rear axle back on, most of the rear suspension installed - upper/lower trailing arms, rear sway bar, shocks. Rear disc brakes will be installed later on (same with the Lakewood ladder bars we’re keeping on it).

Body is primered up and going into lots and lots of block sanding. Going to be discussing the engine rebuild next week.

Side note, I had been leaning towards a new Tremec 5 speed, but with all the possible mods that comes with it, (driveshaft, new bellhousing, metalwork in the floor) I think I’d rather “stick” with the Muncie.

Originally, the first owner painted the lace on decals and stuck them on. I think when it gets to the point where it gets paint, the roof, deck lid, and hood will be shot white first, then the lace stencil taped on (don’t have this yet) with the boarder pin stripes masked off and the car will get hit with the carousel red. Those side graphics will definitely get hand painted again and then put under another layer of clear coat.

TKX will fit into an A body no issues; uses the same bellhousing and shifts better than ANY Muncie - much stronger also and you get a good overdrive. You can shorten your existing driveshaft easily and use the C6 yoke.

You will need an offset shifter, plenty available.
