Default '63 Neutral Safety Switch

Does anyone know if the 3-speed manual transaxle cars were equipped with a neutral safety switch? The wiring diagram shows one, but doesn't elaborate whether it is for all transaxles, or just the automatic. My car will allow you to start it in gear, so I'm wondering if someone has disabled the switch, or if there is not one at all. My personal preference is a clutch switch.

I don't think neutral safety switch/clutch depressed switch came along until the 70s. Rigging up one to the clutch shouldn't be hard to do.

Only the automatic trans cars had a neutral start switch.

I just found the connector where the brown wire comes off the ignition switch and there is a plug with a short loop of wire passing it right back to the purple wire to the starter solenoid. No doubt the connector to the neutral switch on the automatic cars plugged in here instead of the looped wire.
