Default Help. Hideaways work but won't stay closed.

On my 68 GTO, the hideaways open and close fine but fall down on the driver's side and sag on the passenger side when turning off the lights. The driver's side actuator spring seems to make a creaking sound. I replaced the actuator and bushings on the drivers side but it is no better.

To be clear, they open and close all the way, and stay closed while the car is running, then open when you shut it off?. There's a vacuum leak.

There is a over the center rod and spring that keeps them closed when pulled over, make sure that is happening when you shut the lights off.

You can pull the hose and close the door to see how that operates, you'll understand it bit better once you see how it works.

Sounds like the overcenter 'tab' adjustment issue. The overcenter spring is attached to a sort of trapezoid shaped piece at the top. If you loosen the mounting bolts on the tab and adjust it slightly it will make a big difference in whether it stays up with no vacuum or not. It doesn't even appear to have an adjustment but it will move a little bit. I actually had to put lock-washer on because each time I adjusted it, it would slip back down a couple of weeks later. No problems in a couple of years since I did that.
