I have a question - if I install the Cameo White welting to my car which was painted 10 years ago I would guess the car and welting will not match each other. What do you do in that situation.

Also, if I was painting my car, would I also paint the welting?

Thanks,

I think the point of having the colored flares and welting originally was so the didn't have to be painted. Most flares are now in need of paint so it gets done that way. The hope/Goal with these repros being in color is to not have to paint them. But that depends on individual circumstances.

I think functional shaker is correct. If you are repainting in the factory color, you should not have to paint the welding.

Well, The Lucerne Blue sample has arrived. It really looks pretty good when compared to my paint sample. You will notice some streaking if you look close enough. I think that is due to the metallic content and the fact that the color samples are poured into a mold as opposed to extruded from a continuously mixed batch. I will check that part out, but even with that, I think I would put it on my car if I had one. Also, I will have the sample with me this weekend for anybody that would like to see it.

The first two photos are under florescent lighting. the last three are outside in natural sunlight.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

James

While at MCACN, I showed Steve the Lucy Blue sample. He voiced his approval. So I am going ahead with the order. When they revise the cost estimate, I will be able to provide the cost per kit. I am going to discount the price to forum members who order via PM as opposed to Ebay. I have learned that much in this odyssey.

Private sales and using the friends and family PayPal option will help keep the cost down.

I wanted to let folks know that the Cameo White is a dead nuts match for me. I've had a few parts in final paint and have been meaning to check so I did this evening. I hope the picture does it justice. Very good product and we need to support him on this as much as possible folks.

I have been busy with my day jobs so I haven't been on the forum much. I did request an update on the Lucy Blue last Friday. The year end and holiday season has delayed getting the material for extrusion. We are waiting for one of the compounds necessary. I am hoping that this problem will be addressed shortly. I have been assured by the extruder that as soon as they get the material, they will run it. So if I had to guess, we are looking at three weeks.

Starlight Black has been color matched and I am waiting for the final version to be supplied for approval. So I should be starting the year with two colors in production shortly.

On another note, I have made contact with the folks at Muscle Car Review and they are interested in putting the welding and the reproduction trim rings I have made in their new products section. I hope that will broaden the exposure for these items. We'll see.

As far as the cost of the Lucy Blue welting, assuming it lives up to the color sample and quality of the other colors, it looks like the price will come in around $150 to $180. That is better than I thought it would be. That is owed to the interest from all of you on the forum as well as others who have contacted me privately. I hope that price range will work for all of you. It is a lot less expensive than the labor and material cost of painting the other options.

Thanks,

James

Here is a quick Update. I was notified this morning that the Lucy Blue welting is shipping today. I should have it maybe Friday, but more likely Monday. I'll post pictures of it and my impressions on whether we hit the mark.

Also the final color sample for Starlight Black arrived. I think the color is good. I am more concerned about the level of gloss however. After consulting the material supplier, they informed me that black as a color amplifies differences and imperfections. When I thought back to a black Riviera GS I once owned, it made sense to me. Anyway when I compared it to the gloss levels of the other colors, it looks to be at a similar level. here are some photos, one with a flash used and one not. Feel free to comment.

Thanks,

James

Look what showed up and this time in good shape. Both the color and gloss look great! I am sending some up to Steve for his opinion, but i think we hit the mark.
