what is the correct finish for the , center link , tie rod ends , idler arm and the steering shaft . i see some cars are black and some painted cast

The parts you listed are natural or cast paint except center link . The center link is very dark blue gray . Pic's are my GTO and a 2nd gen Camaro but the same as your Firebird.

Some could argue black is correct because of a black out process at factory or dealer to make a better appearance as new car. But its widely accepted to restore with high detail. If black would be applied it would be with little digression

Steering gear boxes were also not painted by GM. Some believe boxes were sprayed before final chassis assembly with something like Cosmolene (sp?) to retard rust formation. Others say they were installed totally "naked". I think either could have been done depending on which final assembly plant did the job.

I agree with Transamric every thing had some type of coating . Even if just a film . But in resto . world things become a little abstract. LoL

Dealer installed No Charge. 64 65 Some vehicles had the death wobble . Thanks for comment
