Plug size?
I need to pull out the plug next to my distributor to hook up my oil pressure gauge. It's a square drive. But 1/4 is too small and 3/8 is too big. Which size is the plug? The plug was out when the engine was rebuilt so I know it will come out.

The socket is a 5/16" square.

Thank you! Wasn't sure if it was 5/16 or 11/32.

Snap On tool P/N PPM410. Or you can grind a 5/16" square on a head/main bolt.

if your 5/16 tool is too loose ,mac makes a 8mm square 3/8 drive tool.sc174p2 , this is a chrome plated one.

Thanks guys! I haven't had a chance to try a 5/16 square yet since the car is currently off at paint. I'll probably have to pull the distributor though to get the plug out.

On my 73 factory engine, the plug was extremely tight. Sounded like a gun went off when it broke loose. Thought i broke my tool but the plug did move. Then i checked my knuckles for missing skin.
If i find this again, i'll try a little heat around the plug.

Your sender is 1/8” pipe male, I forget if the block passage is 1/4” pipe or 3/8” pipe.
