I also took the time to complete the task of pressing the rest of the bushings in the front A-arms and also the rear control arms.
Boy, with the correct tools...life sure gets easy!!

Worked today on getting the power steering parts all cleaned up for some paint. All orginal parts including the gear box...just covered in grease and oil. Will check on the color of this equipment and paint as such.

Things are now starting to take shape. All the pieces are getting both cleaned and painted. Shouldn't be long until I begin the "resurrection"...
Mocked up the rear end with the axles installed w/longer lugs. Needed to check if the disc brake calipers and brackets needed spacers...non needed.
Also painted the front springs along with the front stabilizer bar a smoked grey. most of the other parts that needed to stay neutral, I cleaned/wire brushed and squirted them with Matte/Clear Sealant! They look outstanding....

As a tip, regular Krylon enamel paint will flake off and/or peel in an engine compartment or suspension parts, you should be using engine paint, like duplicolor or the like.

Today I made some progress on getting the rear end done and ready to go back under the LeMans. Also installed both U-Joints and sealed the driveshaft. Did some cleaning, painting and sealing of the front springs, front sway bar and the new tie-rods on the center shaft.
Should be getting to the end of the clean up detail and will begin to reinstall everything so I have a complete rolling chassis and get ready for Clark Gick to shoot the "Blu"

Thanks 455,
I will keep that in mind going forward! I have had pretty good luck with this Rustoleum Paint on my 68 Camaro...and it is not a trailer queen. Having said that, I hope the Matte Clear Sealer will assist in the longevity of the paint.

Thanks again for all your help!

Worked today getting the Poncho 350 ready to go to Chuck's Engine Service in Winamac, Indiana for some magic. Also taking the TH350 as he wants to check it out too..
While at it, I prettied-up the power steering pump and have both new hoses ready to install...
Last but not least today, I painted the firewall and re shot the frame. Have before and after photos...

What a wonderful day I had with my friend of many years, Don Cross! We spent the day together making a trip to Winamac, Indiana to see Chuck, Debbie and Charlie Peterson at Chuck's Engine Service.
Delivered the Pontiac 350 and her TH350 Transmission for some internal "tune up"...well and maybe, just maybe some added extras..
Don Cross took his original heads from his 1964 GTO 389! Chuck's eyes we open wide when he saw them!! I couldn't help but stand back and watch and listen as these two went after the stories about their "earlier days"....
We had the best time. Friendship!! That is what life is all about...allowing others to have a great time....and admire them for what they have accomplished in life and live to tell the stories!!!...

Thanks Gentlemen!!

Kurt, what kind of prep did you have to do to paint the firewall? Also, what kind of paint did you use and how did you apply it? I am looking to clean up and paint in my engine bay on my '71.

Thanks again for sharing your build with us. A lot of what you are doing I would like to do to mine.

Tyler

Tyler,
I used my 4 1/2 grinder with a wire brush on everything under the car...Also had to use a putty knife along with a hand wire brush. I also used some parts cleaner to apply where some of the grease and oil had been for THAT many years. Other than that, I used Rustoleum Semi Gloss Black on the chassis, underside, frame, and firewall. I did also use Rustoleum Matte Clear Sealer to assist with protection. This was the procedure I used on my 1968 Camaro last winter and it is holding up very nicely.
As for the grey, I used Rustoleum Smoke Grey Gloss and them sealed with the Matte Clear.
I don't have provisions to use spray gun...all of mine are done with "Rattle Cans"
...

I've worked for 2 days on trying to install the OEM front springs and the Spacers that go on the lower A-arms....This car is "WEIGH" heavier that the 68 Camaro is and I think GM sub-leased the making of the springs to someone like Caterpillar....
So without risking injury or even death with compressed springs....Hello Summit Racing!!
QA1 Motorsports front suspension setup....YES!!...

I had a very productive day in the garage. I removed the rear bumper and brackets to reveal another solid part of this 71 Pontiac! Took the time to remove all the crud and primed, painted the area semi gloss black along with the brackets. Had the brake lines, fuel lines and vapor lines ran. Ready tomorrow to install the tank and all the "extra" lines above the tank!...
