Inexpensive underhood paint suppliers?
Anybody ever used this in their engine compartment?
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/s...q/applications Need an inexpensive, easy to spray, chemical resistant semi-gloss black for underhood resto. Doesn't have to be concourse correct. I've got the front end blown off, so now's the time to spray.

I use this in Semi-Gloss Black. Its a Sherwin-Williams product and you can find it in many of the big box parts stores.

Looks good Chief..I've not seen that one around. My favorite is full gloss Krylon 'Rust Tough'. Nice fan nozzle and a good gloss that tones down in a few months to a nice looking 60%~70% level.
To mix finishes up just a bit, which I think helps..I also use Rustoleum in the quart can, reduce it a bit and spray it. I used that on the firewall and frame, crossmember, etc. What it looks like freshly applied...

Thanks Greg! A lot depends on how well its laid out as well. I've painted so many vehicles in my days I tell people I can lay out a finish better with a fizz can than some people with a paint gun. I usually buy Brite Touch at Advance Auto Parts. It holds up very well. If I had photo of the engine compartment you could see what it looks like 10 years later. Pretty much still the same.
How's the overspray with that Krylon? I know there are a lot of people that like Rustoleum. I don't. The overspray is horrible. Gets everywhere and sticks to where ever it lands. I have sprayed Rustoleum and found overspray 15' - 20' away. |

It sprays almost like an hvlp gun. Adjustable fan angle and goes down fairly wet. Never seen any fog floating around. Takes a day to really dry hard and fairly scuff proof when it fully cures.
The only Rust-Oleum that l really use is their flat black rust converter. It really works if you want to freeze rust on something like a stone chip until you get around to really dealing with it. I've never seen rust bleed through it and l had some on a beetle fender for three or four years. Also put it all around the rubber window seals where it had blistered. Never did repair it and rust was never visible again. Did a side by side test with plain 2k epoxy and the rust bled through the epoxy in a few days when left out in the snow. I been using japan drier to speed up the dry time with oil based paint on our equipment at work it also flows it out and gives it quite a bit more gloss

I used eastwood underhood black in a spray bomb. It has held up well, my thinking of using this was that touch up would be easy. I have not had to do that though.
