Default 1965 Bonneville lower control arm issue

Hi friends ..I need your help.
I’m just working at my newer project, 65 Bonneville convertible.
I sandblasted the control arms .. new bushings and new lower ball joins.
It’s an early 65 with the welded plate at lower ball joins..
somebody already did a replacing job in the late 70’s .. he cut out the plate and replaced the ball joins ..doesn’t welded the plate in place.
I just replaced the ball joins this way too. The plate isn’t there anymore ..can I use it as is ?
Don’t like to look for 66 control arms ..

Can I use it like it is or is it not save ?
I’m confused what to do know ..

Two pics ..first is like mine are now ...
Second pic shows my other 65 Coupe with the welded plate .. early 65 too. But this plate is missing at my convertible lower control arm

I wouldn't run those arms without the plate welded. Make new ones if you have to or get later arms.

Swapping in later control arms did not work for me. The springs appeared to be angle forward at a 5 degree angle. I used my 65 control arms and welded the plates in.

I have seen instruction sheets from some aftermarket ball joint suppliers saying to remove the plate, pry up the plate then hammer it back down or you can't use on an early 65 A arm..

I might still have a sample plate in my shop if you need it for a template. Let me know.

Bill.

Default 1965 lower control arms

Hi Bill, thx for your help.
I just found a useable set of 65 Catalina control arms here in Germany for 50$
So I can cut out the plates and weld in mine.
Just compared at eBay a 70 control arm vs mine 65 ..does they re really more stronger only because the outer edge is more higher & bended ? I can’t imagine what failsure will happen if I don’t use the plates ..
