Default 73 lemans seatbelt/key buzzer

found the original buzzer for my lemans for the seatbelt/ignition key..plugged it in, and it buzzes with the key in the ignition and the door open, and also when you put it in drive the "fasten belts" light comes on and it continues to buzz..problem is is even after i buckle up, the buzzer and light dont stop...i unplugged the wires going to the seatbelt retractors, but no luck..am i missing something or does one wire on the connector have to be cut to make just the key buzzer work? thanks!!

Try grounding the seat belt wire using a clip lead to see if the light and buzzer stop. The retractor switch is bad, which is common.

so i should unplug it from the retractor and ground it and see if it stops? do i have to ground the driver and pass side retractor wire?....what wire should i lift so i can have the buzzer work for the key and not the seatbelt?

If you ground that wire, the buzzer will work when the key is in the ignition cylinder and door open, but should not allow the seat belt lamp or buzzer to work. It is an entirely separate circuit. Yet, it utilizes the same component to perform both functions.

75 must be different and has 2 separate buzzers, since after owning my 75 LSC for about 9 years, about 2 years ago, my seat belt buzzer started working all of the sudden. Never worked before. Problem was that once it started working, it got to where it wouldn't stop buzzing, even when I buckled up. So, I took the buzzer out. The key buzzer still works though.

1975-77 used two separate buzzer assemblies. The 1975-77 key buzzer was incorporated into the horn relay, and the 1975-76 seat belt buzzer, located next to the horn relay/buzzer used a separate buzzer/warning lamp timer unit that looked like a flasher unit, taped to the wiring harness by the steering column. The 1977 seat belt buzzer used an integral timer.

I thought that the 73's also used a weight switch on the seat cushion that also could be making the conection, I know I have one loose in the shop if I can find it, but I don't have a wiring diagram handy so I don't know if they are hooked up in series or parallel with the switch on the retractor.

Am I remembering it correctly?

Jeff, the weight switch is used only on the passenger side. Could the passenger seat be causing the buzzer/fasten seat belt light to come on? Try buckling both front seat belts to narrow down the problem.

yeah..ill try buckling both belts..i had the front seat recovered and im not sure now if they reinstalled that weight switch..ill look and keep trying to ground the retractors out, etc so i can get my key buzzer to work, i just dont want it to work constantly...right now even when i buckle the drivers belt it wont turn off..with no weight on pass seat.

I just mentioned the weight switch thinking the switch may have shorted out after almost 40 years. I hope you get it sorted out soon.
