If the parts are bought separately, the best price i can find for the 4.25 cast crank is $329 shipped.
https://thmotorsports.com/1540905-ea...RoC-SsQAvD_BwE Forged 4.25 Eagle crank is $770, shipped. https://thmotorsports.com/2680674-ea...RoC3K8QAvD_BwE Don't know if the Spotts price list is up to date, or not. The price listed is $649, for a forged 4.25 crank. That doesn't include shipping. http://www.spottsperformance.com/cranks.htm I think I've already mentioned that the RPM 6.8" 5140 rods are $300, & H-beams are $400. Best price I could find for the 6.8" Eagle H-beam rods is $431 shipped, with no tax. Eagle part # is CRS68003D https://www.ebay.com/itm/Eagle-Conne...wAAOSwi~deBimZ The 6.8" 5140 Eagle rods are part # SIR6800B. Don't know anything about this site. But they show a price of $288. Assuming that doesn't include shipping or tax. MIGHT be the cheapest source. Not sure. https://www.importpartspro.com/sir6800b.html They're $346 shipped from THM. https://thmotorsports.com/3454325-ea...xoCAWcQAvD_BwE Then of course, you have to buy whatever rod bearings, main bearings, & rings you want. I assume that most engine builders have their preference, on these items. Assume most shops will charge $250-$350 to fit pins & balance assembly. Here's some BES prices, from 2017. https://www.chevelles.com/forums/9558882-post6.html Last edited by ponyakr; 02-13-2020 at 04:51 AM. |

Those Eagle #SIR6800B 5140 I-beam rods are recommended by Eagle, up to 700hp. The CSR68003D H-beams are rated to 850hp, with the base grade bolts. More with stronger bolts. They're about 65g lighter than the 5140 I-beams.
https://www.eaglerod.com/index.php?o...d=21&Itemid=32 Would assume that any of these rods would be perfectly safe, in a 4.25 stroker, to 7000rpm, & probably quite a bit higher. Last edited by ponyakr; 02-13-2020 at 05:10 AM. |

" Butler has done it 1000X, that's why they have the kit ready to sell you."
That "1000X" is a example of a Hyperbole. Hyperboles are not comparisons, but extravagant and even ridiculous overstatements, not meant to be taken literally. Ponyakr, as a youngster when your mother said to you... "I've told you to clean your room a million times!"..... was there really a million times ? .

Gime a break. "...What makes you think Butler has built thousands of 4.25 stroke 350's ? Would be curious to know exactly how many they've built, if any. It has been posted that they have a several month back log of engines to build. Wonder how many of those builds involves a 350 block ?..." So, just for more info on this thread, why don't you call Butler & find out EXACTLY how many 4.25" stroke 350's they have built. I'd be interested, as I'm sure many others here would be. Hey, it may be dozens or more. If so, I'd be VERY surprised. |

ponyakr no one is here to imply you are DUMB.
I doubt very much there are many who have put a 4.25-inch crank in a 350 block. .

Cylinder heads used original valve sizes (1.96/1.66ish). We converted the intakes to 30° seats, performed a good valve job, pocket ported the heads and gasket matched. The heads were converted to screw in studs, clearance for 1.65 rockers, exhaust cross overs filled and the combustion chambers heart shaped and opened up to around 88cc. We had to add the end exhaust bolt holes to the heads. Both engines used stamped steel 1.65 rockers and cams around 220 on the intake and 230 on the exhaust. One was a Lunati Voodoo grind and the other was one of our custom nitrated HFT. The 68 used factory manifolds with some work performed to improve flow, a Q-jet and an Edelbrock Performer painted engine color. The other used a late design Edelbrock P4B, with a small Holley and headers. Both engines worked well with the stock torque converters and 3.5'ish rear gears. If we dyno'd them I'm sure they'd be around 400-430ish HP. Last edited by PAUL K; 02-13-2020 at 01:21 PM. |

I am still one of those old fashion people that notices codes on blocks and heads when I look under the hood. On a 4bbl 350 car it would be cool and unusual to have a 4.25 stroker 350. Wolf in sheep’s clothing. I think Hoosier62 meantioned the running a ls piston earlier. I am on the same page with that. In fact I would look into just bushing a bbc rod to sbc or ls and running a stock 5.7 piston like this one. It would be basically zero deck with a 6.8 bbc rod and 4.25 stroke. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/d...make/chevrolet You could always have a custom piston done too. IRC there are even some ls set ups running the .990 pin for big boost. Really the piston is the only part that is special. Another 150 to 250 to do it how you want it with a custom piston does not sound unreasonable to me if you have to go that route. FWIW, If your gunning for 6k I would suggest moving the LSA on your hyd roller cam out to 114, then run around 230-235* at .050. I would likely hold the exhuast to 236*-240. You would need about 240 cfm heads to turn 6000 rpm. I personally would just hold the cam lift to about .5” for that amount of head flow. I do not see any issue to about 430 hp with the 9 scr and about 240 cfm heads in a 350 stroker. The 9 scr probably a little too low for peak power at 6k rpm. To get that done properly with 9scr it probably needs more head flow. I do not see much reason to turn it quite that hard if your going with a hyd roller cam. Good luck! Also... VERY Sorry you’re in Austin. You couldn’t pay me to live in ACL. If you don’t already know who I’m talking about then I don’t think you do know him. I’m Rob, I go to a few meets in RR and Georgetown. Who are you? |

"Austin" is a generalization for some of us. I use it but live North of the city in Liberty Hill. Navy Horn lives in Dripping Springs West of Austin as his User name indicates.
A fwiw, two good machinists come to mind in the area.... Kevin Crocie has a shop out in Dripping Springs at 909-240-9330. David Wolf in Austin (Cedar Park) at 512-219-5555. Glenn Burns in Round Rock is good, but has a crappy personality ! .

The machinist that eludes you is Glenns Machine in Round Rock 512-539-9357 I spoke to Paul Knippen earlier and he is moving to Texas. So with that said I may hold off and go that route since he will only be a few hours north. Glad he is moving here for reasons other than machine work. Jay S! You have given me a lot of info to look at! Thank you! I will chew on that for a bit. |

Dave Kropp who ran CHS Racing Engines ( also known as the Cylinder Head Shop) was my engine builder for 20+ years, after he passed away it was David Wolf who took over the shop. Kevin Crocie brings some work to David Wolf on occasions. I've never personally worked with Glenn, but added him here.

Custom AutoSound USA 630
Its not the best thing in the world but it gets the job done and sounds very good as long as you run it off your phone with an equalizer. Otherwise the simple bass and treble controls do not sound right. Install is easy and the radio is lighter and shorter than the old ones. One thing I really like about it is the fact that its got everything you need to keep the good tunes playing. USB/ipod/Aux inputs. - There is even a bluetooth kit for it |

Fantastic looking Firebird! I like the white color/black vinyl/black interior combo. Not something you see often.
Perfect candidate for a stroker 350 |

Thanks Jay! Most people would turn it into a T/A or Formula but I want to leave it as an Esprit thats mostly original. You just dont see these anymore and everyone else Ive spoken too hasnt seen any in a while either. I was advised by friends at a very respected restoration shop here to leave it alone and drive it, but I really need at least 350hp out of this car.

JD Machine just north of Dripping Springs is fantastic as well. He had no problem working directly with Butler on the specs for the rotating assembly and how it went with my existing pieces (heads, hyd lifters, etc). http://jdmachineworks.com/Home_Page.php
