Default New wheel / tire combo

It's time to replace the seven or eight year old tires on my '70 Formula.

I currently run 235 x 60/15's on the front and 255 x 60/15's, all on 7" Rally II's, and am thinking of of buying a set of Wheel Vintiques to go with a new set of slightly bigger tires.

I'm looking for suggestions in that regard, and so note that I don't race the car, but I do drive it about 3000 miles a year and like the traditional white letter look of BF Goodrich T/A's. I like the bigger-tire-in-the-rear look, as sell.

Has anyone bought a set of 15 X 8 Wheel Vintiques Rallye II's, and if so what back spacing did you order, what size tires did you use, and do you have any clearance issues?

I did.........my originals were gone.........4.5" backspace with 255x60-15's all the way around.......the green car near the bottom of this thread.........http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...=687009&page=2

no clearance issues at all..........if you're not after 100% original they are nice wheels.....and I like the 8"..............

I like they way they look. I take it you bought their trim rings, as well?

I just got a set of WV for mine and the color was a little off. There was too much brown in the charcoal color they use. I had to paint them. I bought the wheels and trim rings from Summit.

I got the WV 15x8s rally IIs for my 70 Formula to replace some snowflake 15x8s that I had on there.

Before I changed wheels, the fronts stuck out further than the rears (all 4 wheels had the same backspacing) and I didn't like the way that looked. So I got different backspacing for the fronts as opposed to the rears so that the tire/wheel would stick out about the same on all four corners (it is still a little off but way better).

The tires are Toyo Proxes and I believe they are 225/60-15s?? I preferred the blackout look as well as no trim. The picture doesn't have the best angle.

15x8, 4.5" BS Wheel Vintiques Rally IIs all around.

When these pics were shot it had P255/60s front and 10x27 ET Streets rear.

I'm also a HUGE fan of the "dechromed" look (NO trim rings for me!) . . .

No clearance problems in the rear, slight outer tread row rub in front over big dips at freeway speeds.

just for information, Herb Adams used 15x8 zero offset(4 inch back space) wheels when he designed the FireAm and,WS6 suspension for the later birds.

FYI - the way the backspace dimension is measured - to the outer lip of the rim, not the tire bead seat - a "0" offest 8" wide rim would actually have a 4.5" backspace measurement.

Sure did Bruce.

I bought this car out of CA 10 years back, and at some point during it's previous life, some genius filled the PONTIAC letter holes (one can view some really cool bondo worms on the backside of that panel).

I've bought the repop PONTIAC letters from PY for whenever I get around to painting this POS, LOL!

Anybody have a set of 15 x 8's with 5" back spacing? That might help avoid any rubbing on the outer tread, although I wonder about clearance at the back.

And for those of you who bought trim rings from Wheel Vintiques for your 15 x 8's Series 60 Rallye's, what is the part number? They seem to have rings only for 15 x 7's...

I bought my WV wheels and rings from Summit. They list the part number for the rings as WVI-3002-1.

15x8 with 4.5 back spacing was the size of the factory aluminum WS6 wheels, so as long as you stick to a reasonable tire size, you shouldn't have any issues.

I have a set of 15x8s with 5" back spacing that I got just because I like the outside to look stock, rather than "deep dish" like the 4.5" back space versions. I haven't mounted them on anything yet (I actually got them for my '68), so no pics to post...

agreed, seems like I read somewhere that the rear wheel track is narrower than the front?, I don't know if that is a "Camaro" thing to tuck the tires under those skirts or what?

I would be perfectly happy with my 17x8's if it weren't for that, guess I'll have to spend some more money to get 9.5's in the rear
