I'm impressed with the effort and progress. Just reading about what is proposed makes me look forward to spending extended weekends exploring different L.I. venues and auto events.

I can't even imagine how cool it would be to have a track on LI. As I've said before, I've never been under 90-120 minutes from a track (plus tolls, bridges, etc). It's the biggest obstacle to my taking my car, is the distance. I don't own a trailer nor do I have room for one, so being able to drive there, do a few runs, and then drive home (or flatbed it, if I break something - who cares if it's just up the LIE!)

I'm trying not to get too excited, but I'm psyched. I'll take my son there. He gets is full license this week and already has a car.

And yes, I'm happy to spend a lot more money locally to do this. Are you listening, powers that be?

Yes Facebook and join as Adam has posted, It will give notifications on the meetings. We have a lot of politicians and towns people involved now.
Long Island has a huge history with drag racing and road racing. There once was 5 tracks here, we have 1, 1/4 mile round track left.
For us here on Long Island to go to Atco or Englishtown with our car on a trailer, tolls are $170 round trip, gas, track fee ... $600+ day.
You know the deal, our real estate became worth so much, the track owners sold out. Our last 1/4 mile track was Hamptons drag way, It was bought for 1 million from the last owner, he sold the property for 7 million a few years later, the developer then built a 55 and over community.
National Speedway was sold to a guy that built a big cookie factory. The Island has been growing with less and less land now.
The are looking for a spot that could house a drag strip, road course and a dirt bike/quad track. The politicians have a task force and are working with John Cozalli to find a good spot. The answer will take 9 months. We can not stop the push now though. The surveys and FB numbers help because it amounts to political votes. The bigger we are in numbers, the more powerfull we are.
The people looking to build the track will mine the sand to build the track. They do that for a living now as it is.

Soooo, if everyone here will just vote, even if you're not from LI, and also join the FB page since it's a also a good indicator of our numbers.

Please feel free to pass this along in the name of cars everywhere!!!

Can you imagine the economic push by having the only race facility on L.I.
I'm thinking the 5 boroughs and the lower Hudson Valley in addition to Nassau and Suffolk.

Maybe more money in taxes but commercial rates are generally higher and don't place any demands on the local school districts. At least in the Hudson Valley that's how it is. I pay Lindbergh baby ransom in taxes on my commercial space. :--)

WE NEED a track here in Bucks County,Pa. to give all the performance cars a place to run. Way to much street racing going on around here.

Few years back the current owners of the old Vargo property told me "if you walk in with a permit you can have half". Probably easier to get hit by lightning - twice.

Anyhow, best of luck to you L.I. guys. Kinda spoiled around here with 5 decent tracks only 1-2 hrs. away.

Doing ok Dave, thank you. Didn't get out much last year - no real reason, just lazy and kinda hot all summer. Preferred to hang out by the pool and relax. Planning to do more cruising and racing this summer so I'll keep an eye out for you. Saw your thread a while back about "winding down" - getting close to that here too - couple more years. Enjoy.
