I have one on my '73 GTO with a pair of incorrect, but aesthetically pleasing chrome valve covers. Comparing the reproduction Part Place FC-65 cap to the original FC-65 cap on my '77 Can Am, I did notice two things:

1. The cap was noticeably lighter weight(Made in China..)than the US made original.

2. The lettering was not in the same areas on the cap. The original cap had the lettering opposite of the ears of the cap.

With that said, I like it a heck of a lot more than the generic looking chrome caps out there on my GTO. The AC logo and lettering fonts are almost right on, albiet they are not as crisp as a stamping as the original. The cap does not leak oil either. So all in all, they are great for a driver/local show car, but in my opinion, not good enough for an expensive nut and bolt restoration, concours level car.

Looks much nicer than earlier repros!

I have seen a couple of NOS versions of this one for sale so a few may pop up. This repo looks pretty decent, but I don't know if it is just right. 77 Canamman compares it to a 1977 version of the FC-65 cap. Maybe the cap was exactly the same its whole production run--not sure.

The 68-69 cap had AC in the middle of it--some had a larger AC, some smaller. InLine Tube has reproduced this cap with the larger AC. I purchased one at the POCI convention. While the AC font does not seem to exactly match the originals I have seen, it is a very nice cap, the right weight and fits nice and tight. The 1968 Ram Air II Firebird at the convention used one, and it looked good. PY may also carry this cap--not sure.

Some will debate this, but I believe that the FC-65 cap is primarily a 70 and up cap. It looks like you have a 70 so it should work ok unless you find an NOS one.

77 CAM and BW:

Thanks very much for your comments. My preference would actually be a decent original used one but no luck yet. I'll take a look at the Inline Tube one as well, thanks for the tip.

Part Number - INL11060 1968-78 Pontiac, GTO, Firebird, 69-74 Buick, 68-74 Chevrolet Valve Cover Oil Fill Cap Chrome AC - inline tube - made off the original - the chrome is better than the originals. The size of the AC does vary not all the caps were made off the same tooling in the same plant.

As for the gas cap - we are working on an exact repo for the 66-69 and the 70 will be different. There were at least 4 different gas caps for the 69 that i know of. 3 are picture above and all are correct - different plant and different manufactures but the same specifications and all work the same.

That cap was NOT used in 1977-79 on the W72 engines with the factory chrome valve covers. The FC-65 cap is correct. I have owned 8 1977 Can Ams, and a pair of W72 1977 Trans Ams and they all had the FC-65 cap.

Ok thanks it looks like a decent repop, however should my car have the FC65 style or this above style? 1970 Pontiac plant early car. I still really haven't been able to determine which one is correct and this is my third decade of poking around on this subject. My car is a mostly original car but when I rescued and then restored it (long long time ago) there was a chrome air cleaner and 2 push in aftermarket breathers... the original oil cap, lower RA pan and breather tube were long gone. I personally like the look of the FC65 better, it looks like my Buick GS cap of yore I used to own not that this matters but I remember the cap was heavy and had nice AC letter detailing.

It is hard to say which one came on the car from the factory since there were multiple suppliers - i have seen the other one with the rivet also - but since i have seen this one much more that is the one we made. I have a few of the FC-65 ones used at home that are in excellent condition if you want that one i would let one go - $50.00 PM if you want it.
