Default Who remembers "Mr. GTO" from the POCI Conventions?

We was unforgettable.

He had an impeccable black '66 (or '67) GTO that he would continuously clean and wax all day, every day. He was one guy that probably actually did wear the paint off from cleaning.

He would show the car with one of three sets of wheel & tire combinations. He would show the car with either Rally I's, steelies & poverty caps, or Hurst wheels.

Another identifiable feature was his license plate, "MR GTO".

Anyone know if this guy is still around? Still has the car? Is the car still around? Anyone have any pictures of this car from one of those events?

I remember the car and the guy, one show he had Rally I's on one side and Hurst wheels on the other side at the same time. He said that way he could please more people. Depending on what they liked. Haven't seen him or the car in a long time.

Here’s a pic from the Downingtown, PA convention in 1988. It’s funny how you always remember cars like this. It was always standing tall.

I was at that convention and remember it well.

Normally, I know people by their cars, but the guy that owned this car was probably as much or more interesting than his car.

His obit.

Died way too young. No kids apparently, maybe his GTO passed to a sibling?

If you saw the guy obsessing over his car you knew he either had issues or this car was his life.

A car like this doesn't just up and disappear or get turned into a daily driver. Its out there, somewhere.

Here is his car with the Hurst wheels on it at the Dennis Kirban show that took place at the Naval Base in Warminster, PA in 1990. He and his car are definitely remembered.

A Rhode Island POCI Chapter member sold the car after he passed.

I never saw the car in person, yet I remember the car and talk of the owner. That is legend status.

IIRC, he also messed around with a unique "tripower". Used three 4 barrel carbs (was mentioned in a Pontiac magazine)

He made it a reality and did it himself.

I hadn't heard the name in quite a few years.
Thanks for your Service to your Country, Charles "Mr GTO", may you continue to have eternal peace. You passed way too early in your life.

Thanks John V for the Obit.

Tom V.
