Default "Rare Pontiac Fieros Are Underwater"

This is from an article on Jalopnic by David Tracy.

It's sad so many are gone up there in Michigan from drowning in the flood. Back in the day it was quite a car, and still is for some folks. And I'm surprised.. looking back.... that there is no forum for them here on the Ames' PY site. After all they are just as much a Pontiac collector's car as the ones here in the forums.

That is really sad, they are good people, met them a few years ago. The entire situation is a shame on my state.

I have always wanted a Fiero. I hope they can salvage some of them.

What's really sad is that this devastation didn't need to happen. Evidently fresh water mussels are more important than risks to life and property.

It's a real shame for the loss of a specialty business and all those cars. You don't have to be a big fan of the Fiero model to still feel bad for the entire area, businesses and the people involved. Fiero made possible lots of advanced technology that made it's way into dozens of other GM cars. It was also a great example of how smart Pontiac people took super limited funds GM was willing to invest in Pontiac and the project and still made a decent little car initially and then every year continued to improve it until they really had a competitive model when it was cancelled. Just sad all around.

From the article Champ linked to.....

"Instead, the company’s owner, Lee Mueller of Las Vegas, insisted that nearby property owners should help foot the bill for repairs at Edenville as well as at the downstream Sanford Dam.

Unless property owners helped pay to fix the dam’s issues, Mueller said in 2013, drawdowns were necessary to ensure flood safety."

I say all the residents and businesses affected by the flood should sue the State for negligence and loss of their goods and properties in a huge class action suit. The state of Michigan was derelict in their duties to protect them from flooding and damage. The state was warned back in 1993 and did nothing? Horse hockey!

The blame directly falls on the state. People lost everything due to shady politics and back door deals.

If that logic holds then every state where the Missouri and Mississippi rivers flow should be paying for all of the flood damage caused by those rivers too. That will never happen so this little dam deal doesn't make much of a stink as far as logic goes.

The Dam Owner was at fault, not some zebra mussels as suggested.

Thats a sad situation it was a very nice area. I used to go deer hunting in that area. To the south Dow chemical has a huge plant in Mildand and its still not real clear if there containment ponds were washed down stream. They used to make some wicked stuff there... agent orange, ddt, pcb's. ect.

Saw some video after the water receded. Fieros all over town destroyed along with everything else. Those earthen type damns like that are so dangerous. Sad deal for all those folks.

Shame the devastation happened to them. As far as Fieros, I think they got a bad rap. My sister n law bought one new in 84 and went through a couple of motors. She was commuting over 100 miles a day and ran the ..... out of it. My wife bought one brand new in '85. It was a base model, 5 speed, we never had any problems with it and it was pretty much an all around good car. Real peppy and handled like a go cart. Doubt it would win much at the dragstrip but thats not really what it was for. My bucket list would have an Indy pace car. I always liked those, even with the goofy air scoop.
