Found this stamp on Rocker Panel
I didn't know there was a stamp in this area. It's on my 67.
I was replacing the rocker trim. Just posting for reference.

Here is the general consensus about those stampings. The number 51 after the Z is the week your rocker panel was manufactured. I can't read whether it is the letter L or R after the date code...but obviously used to designate left or right side. The other numbers are probably part numbers for that particular panel. Pretty much every panel of sheet metal throughout the vehicle was stamped this way. Thanks for posting the photo. |

I don't think so....many panels on my car carried the Z stamp and it was assembled in Arlington. I think the alpha character could designate the stamping machine or station. My car had a lot of A, W, X, Z and AA stamps. That was usually followed by a numerical stamp for week of the year. Many panels just carried the 3 or 4 characters while some have an additional 4 or 5 numerical characters (at least the ones I found on my car...)
As mentioned above....most every piece has a stamp somewhere. I found a TON on my car and tried to see if I could see any sort of pattern. I don't remember seeing R or L as part of any of the Fisher Body Plant panels that are used to make up the car body but I did see R and L on bolt on parts such as the quarter window access panels. Obviously some of the body panels are left or right specific and those appear to be the panels that carry the additional 4 or 5 characters. On my car, the RH rear inner wheel well had a Z18 18227 stamp while the LH part was stamped A18 18667. My car was invoiced on Monday of the 22nd week so it was most likely assembled during the 21st week. All the stamps I found on the body were either 17, 18 or 19 so it works well with the assembly date. The Final Assembly Plant panels appear to use some other date format (fenders, hood etc). Those pieces were not made by Fisher so that may be why the format looks different. My fender is stamped 5A14M. Not sure how to decode that. 5A might be first week of May? interesting....my 67 is a Fremont car and I think I saw Z's on some of the panels during the resto...so that's why I was curious

My 66 shows first week of January on my data plate. My frame is stamped 12/15/65. I just looked at both my rockers. The driver side is stamped 23307z51L and the passenger side is stamped 23307z52R. So the week of manufacturing makes sense on mine. Also a Freemont car.
