Lemans64 - The fires were quite a scare, and the extent of the damage is unbelievable. I was packed and ready to evacuate from Monday through Wednesday, but the winds got more cooperative (for me) and the fire fighters did an awesome job. My house is fine except for some minor wind damage, and the house of my daughter's family is also OK.

The truck - I love it! It tows great and gets much better mileage than the dually did. I haven't even used the load leveling hitch yet. I only have about 4000 miles on it as I don't use it for "normal" transportation. It was what I had packed in the event that I had to evacuate. The rest of the "stuff" was in the cab.

WOW!! What a great selection of cars! From mild mannered street cars to all out strip terrors. I don't have anything against clones (was thinking about it myself, but the car is just too nice) but it is nice to see some LeMans/Tempests that haven't been "turned".

Very nice cars! I don't blame you a bit for not wanting to take that 'vert apart. It's hard to do when they're turn key.

bigponts62..............both really nice cars..............I am am partial to the 'vert since it has a 6 cyl like my '64 sedan with 50k miles..............and I know what you mean about running good........where is a good source for parts for these 6 cyl engines?.........I need an exhaust pipe but haven't found a source so I'll probably just have one custom made. Also looking for other minor stuff........

bigponts, I really dig the license plate on the '64 HT, 'NOT A GTO'. Awesome cars.

The '64 -'65 Pontiac Tempest 215 six-banger is really a Chevy engine through and through. It has 'PONTIAC' cast into the side of the block, but other than that it's the same as a Chevy 230 six (same family as the low-deck 194/230/250 Chevy, the truck 292 has a taller block) except for the bore size.

The Pontiac 215 has a 3.750" bore, the 230 has a 3.875" bore, both have a 3.25" stroke crankshaft. Carb, air cleaner, cam, distributor, fuel pump, oil filter, etc. are all the same as a Chevy.

You can bet that if a '64 -'65 Chevelle six-cylinder exhaust system is available, it will fit.

It's really easy to find parts for.

Rebuild kits I found here: http://kanter.com/p22-pon.html

Some neat 6-cylinder engine stuff at Larrowe & Sons... manifolds, 4bbl conversions, shiny goods, etc: http://www.merchantamerica.com/chevy...ex.php?ba=home

Most of the Offenhauser manifolds for the 230 will fit just fine. I see headers every now & then on ePay.

Also, I have a new Comp cam and lifters - mild improvement over stock. Was built for my 2-Speed auto setup. I've changed my mind and will go the 389 route. Brand new sealed package. PM if interested.

I suspected that it was Chevy based since visually it looks similar but I was suspicious after seeing Pontiac cast into the block plus the difference in displacement. That's a good tip on the exhaust and am going to research it again even though I couldn't find anything that cross-referenced the other GM intermediates. I've bid on two Hollanders on ebay so far but haven't been successful yet...........

I looked at Kanter website and they do list many o the major components along with gaskets...........good thing is their facility is on my way to work .....that other website has some cool stuff for the inline six's.............who made the cam?

Other than the pricey 'odd-ball' 3.750" bore 215-only pistons, I would say buy from another source other than Kanters. You'll be paying a premuim for otherwise run-of-the-mill Chevy six parts.

My 64 Tempest is a near twin to bigponts62's lemans, right down to the color and the 215 six. The car was my wife's grandmother's car bought for her by her husband in 1964! We towed it home a couple years ago and it has been sitting while I have been working on a 71 F-car. Well it is time to start working on this thing and hope to have it looking less humble in a couple years. No plans to change it to a V8 as I have fast cars, rather the intention is to make this into a nice cruiser. This is my first post in A-body area but I'll be back as I have questions and as work progresses.....
