Default Robocallers & SPAMMERS back to work today

Evidently, the lockdown in the area where robocallers and spammers reside has been lifted. Have had more of these calls on my business phone this morning than in the last 2 months cumulative.

Big article on the 'net last week about this, suggesting most originated in Europe. Guess they went back to work today.

It REALLY was nice while it lasted!

Jon.

I'm seriously thinking about if I happen to pickup a call like those, to lead them on and speak softly so they can barely hear me, ask them to press their ear closer to the phone and when I know it's time, let them have the blast of an air horn.

Interesting as I live in Italy and robocalls do not exist here. I occasionally get a call from providers trying to get me to change service. Every time I am in the States and use my US phone I am overwhelmed with calls to the point I can't take it and turn it off. Do you have a link for the article saying the calls come from Europe?

I guess a lot of them originate from Nevada. I still have a 702 number from when I lived in Vegas. Now that Im outside of that area I have a hard time getting some people to take my calls. Simple things like trying to get a plumber or something, can be difficult.

I never answer a call when I don't recognize the number. If they leave a message I will either return their call or delete it and block the number.

I don’t either however and I’m not sure how they are doing this.... my phone rings, caller ID’s it as Tri Valley Primary care which is my Dr.s office. So I answer it and it’s The National order of Police, wanting a donation a real person WTH is that? Last week I got one saying it was from M. Grey which is the hubbys name and my Sons name. It was an electric co that we don’t even have. Next one was caller ID from our Lawyers office, and the real caller wanted us to upgrade our warranty on a car we haven’t owned for 3 years now. How are these callers using other numbers that the caller ID claims then they’re not.?

MarryAnn,

The spammers program the phone header with a random number, and delete the number of the originating telephone.

Twice, I have received a call from myself!!!!!!!!!!!

I would think this should be considered fraud, and be unlawful.

It is certainly annoying.

Jon.

I basically have any person I want to hear from in my phone. If it's not one of them, I don't answer.

When they say "Europe" they are probably talking about Eastern Europe, which is still the world head quarters for the best software hackers, they write most of the software that robo callers use.

I do the same with my personal phone. Really impossible to do that (and stay in business) with a business phone.

I haven't got a lot of robo calls; but, for a while, about once a week, I was getting an email from my self telling me that I have been hacked and if I don't send money all my personal info from my computer will be posted on the web. When my wife got her new China Huawei phone she would get robo calls; a lot of them leaving messages. All in f#$%^&g Chinese.

Don't you just love how well the "Do Not Call" registry works?

I do not answer. Leave a message, then if I know you I will call back. I tell the wife it's important the first responders will be here. Speak softly hmm not a bad idea. My father got a call about siding on house. Dad went thru, the colors, the style, how long will it take , price etc. Guy wascready to come over wanted address. Dad said oh by the way my home is brick! Click! My father was a self employed contractor for geez about 45 yrs. I said why waste your time?

Just for grins, I just went over the server phone history for today.

27 calls, breaking down as follows"

11 legitimate customers (6 orders, 2 newer than 1975, 2 with issues I was able to solve without them spending anything, and 1 "I'll get back to you"
15 "unknown", "invalid number", "unknown number"
1 "private"

I got one marked “US Congress” once. Which I thought was funny - that’s obviously someone from another country who doesn’t know that those calls would be more often ignored.

It works just fine for legitimate callers, but the scammers are criminals. Of course they aren't going to obey.
