pulleys
Hey don't know if this helps but on my 67 I have a single pulley that bolts behind the two groove pulley. This makes it a three groove pulley

I have the third pulley but there is a clanging noise occasionally that I can't find. So I tought maybe the single pulley wasn't sitting flat. you can't tell by looking.

Same on the 1969 - 1974 V8s.
Single groove pulley at the back for the AC with the 2 groove pulley in front of it for P/S and alternator.
The single groove pulley also affects the spacing of the lower pulley in relation to the upper pulley and accessories. Good luck figuring out the noise! Unless one of the pulleys is cracked, they're probably not the issue. |

I got one from CVF racing. If you want to go aftermarket.

Greg: Check the bolts that hold the pulleys to the balancer. Make sure to use blue lock tight on them. Be careful not to over torque them. I seen them come loose and cause that noise, and even break off. Charles |

On the early motors until 67 with the small harmonic balancer, the balancer has been known to separate from its press on mounting sleeve and make noise.

Would anybody not use this pulley it is pitted1/3 of the diameter. I ran it 2 years and never had a problem. Is it worth trying to find another pulley

As long as all the high spots (rust) are ground/filed down (which appears to be the case with this one) then you'll be fine.

Looks acceptable to me.
We've used plenty that were worse than that.
Glass bead all the rust and corrosion off, hit it with a wire brush, followed by a good coat of satin black paint. No-one will ever know. The surface roughness might wear the belt SLIGHTLY faster, but who drives these cars enough to wear belts out anymore ? Good luck. |
