Default Check out this Bike I found

Western Flyer, think it came from Western Auto.
Stylish don't you think.

It's heavy compared to bikes today.

Most likely the handlebars, seat and sissy bar didn't come on the bike as new - they were probably added to a standard bike by the kid who owned it.

Very cool- we have a few old Schwinn’s I ride around the neighborhood with the kids. A lot of fun to play on. You going to do anything to it or leave it as is?

I just googled Western Flyer chopper style Bicycles and it shows many different styles. Looking at the pics on Google, This bike did have the seat, sissy bar, and handlebars. I didn't see exact fenders like this but I didn't look at everything yet.

Cool how they made these bikes. Not sure how old this one is.

Going to get more info. and then make decision what to do with it.

Pretty cool bike, cant see in the pics, but does the seat have a metal flake to it? I had a friend whose bike had a steering wheel instead of handle bars, and also a stick shift. That was THE coolest bike in the world to a 10 year old.

There was a lime green / matte black ‘GTO’ bike that had a shifter on it for sale locally. I really wanted it but I couldn’t justify $750 when it wasn’t a major brand. I should have bought it- I’ve never seen or heard of another one

Most serial numbers are found on the bottom of the crank housing. If you can find one it will help ID when your bike was made. It was probably mid60s to early 70s.

Found numbers on bottom of pedal area. Looked online but haven't seen any information to tell when it was made.
Western Flyer metal tag riveted to the front. Not sure when they changed from riveted tag to decals. Seat frame hasTroxel, Moscow Tenn USA. under it.
MOR 2034, 90979 are the numbers I found.
Has 26x1.95 tires with 50-559 on them.

The orange paint on handlebars will come off. Red paint is a re-paint, so not sure what it's supposed to look like.
Still looking at pictures online to see if I can find one like this.
May have been made by Murray Ohio for western auto.

Default Schwinn Stingray

The first Muscle bike, which everyone else copied. Butterfly handle bars, Banana seat.

That is the famous Schwinn Stingray. The real ones were first manufactured in mid 1963 and continued through 1973.

Sound familiar. Pontiac GTO (first Muscle car) 1964-1974.

Below is “My Three Sons” on a 1963 Flamboyant Lime Stingray. Cover of TV guide.

My Nov. 63 Lime standard Survivor.
Factory paint, Original solo polo seat and OEM dated tires.

Chris.

That’s a clean bike. So the Sting Ray was the first one to have the banana seat and ape hangers?

I think the Sting Ray was the first bike that came from the factory with a banana seat and ape hangers. I don't remember, but assume the seats and bars must have been available before then by themselves, and then Schwinn noticed it was a trend and came out with a readymade bike.

I still have my old JC Higgins bike from when I was a kid, stored away in the garage attic. It has one of those first generation Stingray banana seats on it, I bought the seat from a neighbor kid for 50 cents.
