Holley Dash In A GTO, Anyone??
Curious what this looks like and where you mounted it?? Pics would be great, I plan on getting either the 7" or 12" this Summer.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a Holley Dash? Thanks

I never heard of it either till I did a quick search--different models available with a varied selection of gauges.

Thanks. I never thought of Holley in the gauges business since I use and prefer Auto Meter.

How would you mount them? Standing up like a nav system panel and blocking everything behind them or hanging below the dash like an oversized 3 gauge cluster? I can't see any way to integrate them without your dash winding up looking like something out of an episode of Street Outlaws.
Dakota Digital would be my choice, which are fully integrated into OEM shaped dash bezels. How much cheaper are these?

One option for the 7" is in the upper left corner near the A arm and windshield or above the steering wheel.
The 12" would need a steering wheel mounting to keep all the gauges in front of you without inhibiting your vision. There's probably someone on here with the Holley and the dash is a nice addition to reading all the gauges at once. Hopefully they'll find this thread or I'll reply back after I do it.

Those new dash setups are sweet!
I'd probably cut out inside of the original bezel, and use a carbon fiber sheet to make a new inlay. Drop the screen into the CF.

My buddy with a 68 Charger that is EFI with a Hilborn stack setup has one and really likes it. I'll see if I can get some pictures of it in his.

You guys are way more ambitious than I am. Installing a flat panel in a curved dash bezel is not without it's complications.
I'm becoming more of a preservationist regarding form and like the form of the original. Dakota Digital gauges would add modern function to that form. Some people want their cars to look like race cars inside with a gauge panel that looks like a Racepak Data System sitting on a flat dash panel cover-up. It's all good, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Darbikrash, thanks. Ever try or consider putting it above the steering column for easier viewing?
I'm not planning on cutting anything up, a steering column mount or upper A arm mount should be a good way to see them while being able to watch the road to. But if someone has a custom dash with it etc I'm curious.

I have a friend with the larger Holley dash mounted behind the steering wheel, as it has GPS speedo, this makes more sense. I'll see if I can snap some pics of it. Keep in mind that the dashes are not just for display, a big feature is that you can program the ECU with them, and datalog as well.
Not sure behind the wheel is the best spot for this, but it is definitely personal preference. I have the Dakota Digital dash in my '65 GTO, also with Holley EFI -but not the Holley dash. The Holley dash gives you a lot more information. I kind of like having the stock dash gauges in the '69, with the Holley dash to provide ECU info and eliminating having to lug around a laptop for field programing.

Lucky Costa (host of Hot Rod Garage) recently put up a video of installation of an Intellitronix electronic dash cluster in his '67 Chevy truck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTW4f0rCfU4 It's a direct replacement for the stock gauges, and my understanding is they make them for a number of vehicles. I don't know if they have them for GTOs but it may be worth checking.

Not worth it if you have a Holley Hp etc IMO. The Holley dash reads out every sensor that you input into the HP computer and there's many screens to look at. The 12" is also like a laptop allowing tuning on the spot via the touch screen. The dash is very specific to the Holley computer.

I've been looking at these since both my father and I are going Holley Stealth.
Another alternative are the conventional round gauges that Holley also offers for these EFI systems, that plug and play. Comes with the 3.5" screen, and I'll use a laptop for tuning for a while, but may step up to the 7" screen for easier reading at a later date. Rather than the Holley add on gagues, we bought extra sensors to have oil, water and fuel pressures displayed on the Sniper screen so we can remove the add on gauges that have been in these cars for decades and clean up the interior, then just plug in the screen when we want it. Plus it also allows you to log these vitals too. I'm not interested in permanently mounting a touch screen so can't help you there. Like others I prefer to preserve the stock appearance and because I'll be removing the screen frequently when parked, I think the 12" is too big to fiddle with all the time and wouldn't easily fit in the glove box, lol. Dad and I both have been looking at a temporary mount on the console of his 69 GTO and my Chevelle, just like pictured above, or maybe just a suction cup on the windshield. Technically you don't have to stare at it, since it has the ability to log. So after a full throttle run you can pull the SD card and view it on your home computer screen, or a lap top and see exactly what is happening at all points of the run. Same thing I've done on HPtuners when tuning LS engines for years. |

Look at how you can make a bracket to install in your ashtray slot. Can always unplug and convert back easy. I took an old ashtray and cut a hole in the front to mount my O2 display and will change back to the clean one when not tuning. Get creative and see what can work without cutting anything up. Likely not a permanent installation but for tuning.

I use a portable wide band (LM1) for tuning but I do have a permanent 02 mounted in one car with a small 2 1/16 gauge. When the sniper goes in I'll move that 02 to the other side of the exhaust. So the Sniper can monitor one side for it's adjustments and I can monitor the other side to see how it fairs. |

I'd go with a suction cup mount on windshield ... down low at dashboard level.
Like a stand-alone GPS unit or - If you have an in-dash CD player - they have adapters for mounting GPS units (and cell phone holders) - that slide into CD slot and tighten in with a torsion knob. I used a windshield suction cup GPS for a while. Hated all the "rings" on the windshield though. Someone gave me a CD Slot cell phone holder gizmo - i noticed the cell phone gizmo used the same ball-and-socket interface as my GPS suction cup ... so i ball-and-socketed my GPS into that and life is good. And my windshield never has octopus rings on it. if any of that inspires or helps anyone |
